Thinking about a Montblanc starwalker midnight pen

I've been kicking around the idea for awhile now of picking up a special pen but would like a few opinions. I'm not familiar with pen brands very much so this is a little new. I was looking around and came across a Montblanc starwalker midnight ballpoint that caught my eye. Really like the way the pen looks. I'm shooting for something at $300 max. I will be using this pen most likely everyday and it needs to be a ballpoint as I sign a lot of carbon paper here. What do you guys suggest?

Its a good pen. If you fish around online you can get some great deals opposed going to an AD

I would test drive a number of pens. How you grip the pen and what your comfortable with does matter when looking for a nice pen. Many brands come in different styles and sizes. Mont Blanc makes a very nice Pen. Where you buy might save you a couple of bucks, making sure your happy with what you get is more important. Not sure if you have a Paradise Pen Company store near you, but I would try there first.

How a pen handles and exhibits its weight balance to the user is quite important. Therefore I agree with earlier post(s) above to 'test-drive' a number of pen types and designs before you commit.

Taller or shorter, fatter or thinner, can make a big difference for some. You'd like to enjoy using the pen so it is very important to buy something you feel very comfortable handling every day.

I had a Starwalker Midnight and would not recommend it. It looks great but (at least on my sample) the matte part started chipping very easily. I ended up selling it and getting the Mystery. My favorite is the Cool Blue.

Is this a Monte Blanc pen, also? The Mystery pen?

I have a midnight FP....I love the thing (even though it only takes cartridges)

No chipping issues (close to the edges, next to the clip)? Like I said, maybe I got a lemon (bought from Mayors, so 100% the real deal).

I have the Cool Blue and the Midnight as well....I've been very happy with both. Bought a Midnight for my wife too.

its a daily driver for me - love it and its not as obvious as the all black resin MS... picked up from Amsterdam airport earlier this year and they were cheaper than AD's in the UK.

Nope, not an issue at all. I've had it for 7-8 months now and I use it 3-4 times a week in rotation with my other FP's.

Oddly enough I did have to send my MB solitaire (carbon fiber and steel) back for repair, the carbon got loose from the base of the cap.

Just pulled the trigger on a Montblanc starwalker midnight resin ballpoint and actually found a pretty good price from an authorized dealer, comparatively speaking. Free 2 day shipping even. Should be here late next week. It would seem that the pen is out of stock until the next order comes in shortly. The problem here is that I've been researching pens non stop for several days now and in my quest, found about 20 other pens that I would like to have as well! I'll post some pics when it shows up.

As has been stated...go to a pen store like Paradise Pen or a MontBlanc Boutique(if you are sold on MB's-as I have quite a few and enjoy all of them)and check them out in person. There are many great brands and all are little different. So check them out and write with them in a store before you make a choice. I happen to prefer fountain pens and use all brands but prefer the ones with gold nibs. I also prefer nibs which write with a finer line so I buy the extra fine or even smaller sizes(Accountant or Needle nibs). Also I am enjoying my Vintage fountain pens which have the flexible gold nibs. If you do decide one day to buy and use fountain pens...the ones with converters are really nice because they hold more ink then the one's which only use cartridges!!!

I agree I really like my MontBlanc(Starwalker-Metal with Rubber) ballpoint pen in this styling and also own the rollerball as well. They write great, feel good in your hand and I was able to buy them at a deep discount because the jewelry store I purchased them from was going out of business!!!

I just remembered, it was the Midnight Black Metal (not the resin) that I had the problem with ...

I have this exact same pen... it's my daily beater. I quite enjoy it.
I'm currently looking at a few other pens to rotate in (Caran d'ache and an Aurora).
