Need help to find 5513 or 5512

Hi I have dreamed for a long time to buy a 5513 or 5512, now I have finally taken the decision to buy. Need some help to find the best edition for my budget. Important that the watch is original without any replaced parts.

My budget is maximum USD 4500.
I dont know why, but I would really love to buy a older watch.

Welcome to the Forum!

Nice choice with the watch you are seeking.

There are some rules on this forum that you have meet a 16 post minimum and 16 days on. At that time, you should be able to post a Want To Buy (WTB) post.

Otherwise, search the for sale forum here and on VRF.

Good luck with your search!

Welcome to the best Rolex Forum on the 'net!

I recommend you take the opportunity to handle as many 5513s and 5512s as you can, and make sure you read/review all the great resources and links posted here on TRF in the Vintage and Reference sections, so that when you do decide to pull the trigger you will do so being as prepared as possible.....wouldn't want to make any major mistakes, in this upcoming purchase.

Again, read, read, read all the great information shared here, in posts and links, and ask all your questions here BEFORE making a purchase. We have many very knowledgeable members here who unselfishly share their vintage knowledge with others here. Just make sure you can post good quality images for all to see.

Good luck, and may you find one that you love as much as I love this one, my recent 1977/78 all original, unmolested, beautifully matching patina'd serif dial and hands 5513 with original period correct 93150 bracelet with 580 end links acquisition, acquired with the kind help/support of many of our wonderful Vintage collectors/experts!!! I couldn't have done it without their guidance!

Alright! Lots of great sellers in the sales forum here but do your homework on the seller and your piece. I might suggest adding a bit to your budget. $4500 isn't unreasonable but $6000 will get you a much better example. IMHO.

I drop in at a local vintage dealer every couple of weeks. it's the buy the seller advice. I eventually found this one after looking for 3-4 years. I like trying to stay with a local dealer, who will usually try to make you the best deal, and offer a warranty as well. hopefully, there's a vintage dealer close to you.

I also have a 5513 and would recommend going that route. I love mine, enjoy the hunt.

Hi
Thanks for the good feedbacks, I will definitely go for 5513. Should I buy the watch from chrono24 or her on the forum? I think this watch looks so nice

Wherever you buy from, the mantra is buy the seller not the watch!

Was just browsing the sellers website and listings on Chrono24 and he has a wide selection at all price points, personally, if the manufacture year wasn't important to you then I would get the most complete set possible with box and papers.

I have found that when hunting for a specific vintage year and reference, it will prove difficult to find the complete works.

Then there's the small issue of price after that :)

Everything is easily repairable or repalceable within reasonable budget and has the 1530 movement which is a true workhorse movement from Rolex.

Like a good old porsche 911 ;)

So that watch seems bad? What should I ask for when Im in contact with a seller? I think i should ask if the watch has been in service lately, and if anything have been replaced at service in any point. In worst case what sort of $ mistake can I meet?

Never buy too quicky, take your time and think twice.

Try also to see the watch and not only pictures, there are very good software these days to customize the truth

I bought already several Vintage Rolex and saw so many crapy units, you really have to be careful and don't trust pictures only.

you're also from norway, which means international shipping and possible customs, right? that adds another layer of complexity.

I will not rush to buy, have decided that I really want a 5513 meters first in excellent condition. To get the watch to Norway I have to pay both customs and VAT of 25% of the value of the watch!

Unless you buy in the EU.

Ask for pictures of the dial, bezel , lugs, model and serial number. Ask if the dial is original or if it has been repainted?
Original bracelet?
Is every part on the watch and bracelet from the date of production or has something been change over time?
Does it run?
You don't want a Frankeinstein, different parts from different years. The most important thing is as mentioned before, read, read, read. Know your 5513 and compare it with your facts.

That seller was not Steve Mulholland correct? Why would he have his card in one of the pictures? Seems odd.
