Sayings, quotes and anecdotes

Guys,
Last week there were two threads started, one by subtona (Gus) and one by Darmapow (Darren) about quotes and advice. Gus wants quotes made by a TRF member in a post that is funny and meaningful.
Darren's post was for the best advice you ever had.
I posted in both threads that I had hundreds of quotes, sayings and anecdotes and was considering starting a thread for such and received several positive responses.
Darren and Gus, I don't want to step on your toes as this thread is close to yours but for this one how about anyone just posting any favorite sayings, quotes or anecdotes.
I started my collection of these some fourteen years ago while I was going through my divorce. Some make me laugh, some make me cry and all of them make me think a bit.
Some of them can not be shared here for various reasons but I have hundreds that I'd love to put out there. Some are only a word or two, some take up an entire page (I won't post those).
I'll start with two that I had in my locker at the PD. If this thread goes stale after a day or two I'll revive it with another one of mine... Let em rip guys...

Strive mightly

Success is in the way you walk the paths of life each day and the things you say. Success is not in getting rich or rising high to fame. It's not alone in winning goals, which all men hope to claim. Success is being big of heart and broad in mind, it's being faithful to your friends and to the stranger kind. It's in the children whom you love and all they learn from you. Success depends on character and everything you do.

Here's one about humility and our place in the universe, that's always resonated with me.

3 of my favorites

"Criticism has plucked the imaginary flowers on the chain not in order that man shall continue to bear that chain without fantasy or consolation, but so that he shall throw off the chain and pluck the living flower.
Karl Marx

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety"
Benjamin Franklin

“Every atom in your body comes from a star that exploded. And the atoms in your left hand probably came from a different star than the atoms in your right hand. It really is the most poetic thing I know about the universe:
You are all stardust.
You couldn’t be here if stars hadn’t exploded, because the elements, the carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, all the things that matters for evolution, weren’t created at the beginning of time. They were created by stars.
So forget *****. Stars died so you could live.”

My saying: thinking will not overcome fear, but action will -W. Clement Stone

My quote : There is an indefinable mysterious power that pervades everything, I feel it though I do not see it. It is this unseen power which makes itself felt and yet defies all proof, because it is so unlike all that I perceive through my senses. It transcends the senses. -Gandhi

A lot of wisdom by Matt “Eric” Helm, by Donald Hamilton has kept me out of trouble

And for when things go from SNAFU to BOAKYAG in a blink of an eye:

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer,
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration,
I will face my fear; I will permit it to pass over me and through me.

Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain!
