$2 Tudor Oyster !!
Hi folks, just thought I'd share this nice little find. It is a Ref 4453 Tudor Oyster dating from 1940s. It has the Cal 59 movement which has a broken balance shaft and screw down crown is threaded. A nice find for £1.50 ($2)!!!

Well, he said the balance staff is broken, so it wouldn't be currently running.

That would be worth restoring. The dial might be able to be gently cleaned (might be nicotine stain), and of course the hands could be relumed better. I just saw your eBay listing. It's fine, but the 4453 is certainly not rare, and definitely not "very rare"...But you're not the first eBay seller to tend toward hyperbole.

I can't stop coming back to this page and looking at this beautiful watch. I keep imagining it with a brown leather band and sitting on my wrist. Haha.

Return On Investment.
Btw, here's mine from the same era, overhauled and running like a.......... well, like a Swiss watch! Canadian members might recognize the case back inscription: D.F. Schneider 25 Years Service J.M. Schneider Ltd. 1951 The dial dates the watch to between 1936 and 1947. Schneider Meats is now part of Maple Leaf Foods.

Hi there,
Sorry for dragging this old post back but I'm trying to figure out if I purchased a genuine Tudor Oyster. Should there be a serial number or some kind of marking between the lugs at 6 and 12 O'clock for a Tudor Oyster? I've read on the internet that genuine rolex watches have this but I'm not sure if it is the same for the Tudor Oyster. On the back of the case there is the serial number and also underneath it 4453. Sorry for the stupid question, I've googled this and I've been going in circles. Many thanks |
