About how long ago did Rolex start etching the crown on the crystal?

From the Y-series....that would be from early 2003 or so. Remember, though, not all the Y-series have them. It's somewhat erratic. My TT Blue Sub which was a very late Y-series had it and also came without lug-holes.

My earlier K-seies GMT-II came with lug-holes and no etching.

Agree with JJ and all service replacements now have a letter .S. though the coronet

Very erratic. My Y series GMT does not have it.

It's probably an early Y, so it will not have the etching, Ed.
