crown etching on rolex

I recently purchased a tt dj roman dial at a reputable AD. I cannot locate the etching that is supposed to be on the watch. I scoured the whole face of the watch and could not find it. Can anyone help.

Thanks

Be prepared to get some really funny looks from your significant other, but if you hole the watch up to a light and just slowly look at it from different angles around the 6 on the crystal it will appear. I have heard of people looking at their watch on their arm while driving and spotting it for the first time.

It is there, you just have to manipulate the light so that it catches it with your bare eyes, otherwise, go to your AD and borrow a loupe and look at it in the shop, again be ready for the funny looks. Don't worry about the looks though, you get used to them, I am.

It is not important I know, but it is cool to see it, so keep trying, it is there.

Just get a really bright torch (or bright sunlight) and look at the very edge of the crystal at 6 o'clock - you'll find it!

To see it with the naked eye, you would require the eyesight of the bald American eagle. LOL!! You will need a 10x loupe and place the watch under a lamp. You will see it on the very edge of the crystal at '6' mark like this...

Hey guys,
My model is the SD w/Serti Dial (series F). It doesn't seem to have the crown. I think they were fazing them in between F and most recent series. Any thoughts?

You are bald JJ, but with the specs you don't resemble an eagle at all, I'm sorry

Tchase, your DJ may not have one. It depends when it was manufactured. They started phasing them in about 3 years ago. Yours may have missed the cut.

And jzanvett, welcome to TRF. Do stick around for more than one post. Join in the fun at our friendly little madhouse here.

A DJ might not be recent enough to have the coronet but most who do not see it at first eventually do. I recommend to look at it in a dark room and flash a strong light across the dial with a 10X loop. =) maverick

Welcome to TRF, pal. If it's an F-series, it must have the etching. The etching started with the Y-series which was before the F-series.

Hold the watch under a 60 Watt lamp and you will see the etching using a 10x loupe. You might need to do some focussing with the loupe, but eventually you will find it.

Good luck - JJ

I finally got a glimpse of mine on the GMT today. Seems like the glare from the mirror and the lighting in the bathroom are just right.

You new Sub should have it too. Is it a D-series?

It's much quicker and less strain on the eyes if you hold the watch under a lamp, say 40~60 watts. Then with a 10x loupe it's very easy to spot.

NOT with the naked eye, you won't!! But, hey, you're a cop with 20/20 vision...you might just be able to spot it. I know my daughter, Yasmin, has such keen eyesight, she's able to spot the etching without any loupe. Amazing!!
