Dead watch dilemma

image.jpg

To all,

This question is not specific to this watch, but what do you with a vintage watch that costs more than it is worth to fix? Obviously a Rolex or a Patek etc. is worth fixing.

This example is one of those proverbial "drawer watches" found when a relative passes away. In this case it is a Baume & Mercier chronograph model 902, probably from the 1940s. It is a manual wind and yes the crystal (plastic) is cracked. It has no sentimental value (e.g. Not the watch a beloved grandfather wore).

We plan on keeping it, dead, in a drawer because the cost to fix a vintage chronograph is high, and the watch is not particularly expensive.

We also found a crystal-less Movado sports watch from the 1940s that looked cool, so we did have a professional watch maker fix it up.

Any thoughts?

Maybe donate it to a watchmaking program? Is that a thing?

If it had sentimental value, keep it, otherwise sell it on Ebay, needing repair. Probably get something for it.

Don't put a penny into it if you don't care about it...because you will never recoup the service with a B&M...just far too soft a brand...even vintage
