Daytona white gold - which year please?

A friend is offering me a white gold Daytona with serial number K450xxx for £8,000. According to the serial number this watch was made in 2001. However another friend tells me that in 2001 there were no white gold Daytona on the market.

I am confused......... can someone please tell me if this is white gold or steel? and when the white gold came out (which movement? - Zenith? or Rolex?)

Thank you

Ref 16519 was the first Rolex Daytona available in entirely white gold introduced around 1989 with the cal 4030 Zenith movement. Rolex in-house from early 2000 on, just check seconds sub dials if at 6 o'clock rolex in-house at 9 o'clock its a Zenith.K date letter ran from September 2001 till August 2002 so most probably a in -house movement. If its gold will have a hallmark on the watch 750
between lugs

Before paying, make sure it has the 18k hallmarks on the clasp, and the Trip-lock crown will have a larger center dot with the two outer dots smaller.

Yes 4130 movement started around 2000 and K serial should have the second hand dial at 6-o'clock position.
Pictures!!
Turn the watch over and behind the lugs, it should tell you if it's WG.
usually 18K is inscribed and sometime 750 (75% gold) is seen in some pieces.

If it is a 16519 or 116519 then £8k is a grand or more too expensive.

If it is a 116509 then it's a very good price albeit I thought the earliest ones were on a late Y serial.

WOW WOW WOW

Thanks a BUNCH to everyone - extremely helpful and informative.

Does the "crown bit" apply to all models sent out by Rolex (probably yes, as Rolex are precise on these issues) and are the drawings shown (three balls - curved - for the Triplock) accurate? or, for example, they could be three - straight - balls.

On the Daytona steel - back plate - is Daytona 1992 engraved at the back - as standard, please?

A typical SS Daytona does not come from the factory with anything engraved on the back..

No engraving on the back of any standard Daytona, only the nasty cheap fakes.

One exception may be an engraving made to the watches gifted to the race winners of the Daytona event though these watches would never be seen on the Rolex watch market.

Thanks a lot -

Hoping to spot the fakes straight away - could you please tell me about the seconds' hand?
On "normal" function - which hand will show the seconds? There are three subdials - am I right to assume that the subdial at 6 is the one for the seconds and that the BIG "seconds" hand (usually shown or Rolex catalogue at 54 minutes) only moves when the chronograph is set?
