Yes, a mate and I thought we'd try it out after doing lots of caving and open water diving.
Visibility zero.
I had the submariner then (still do) and did use it in anger on open water dives, as there was no dive computers then. So actually used the bezel to measure dive time...
Yet maximum depth I ever went to was 30 meters. And if I remember 50 meters and below air is poisonous ; so the a Deep Sea and even the Seadweller and even the Submariner are exercises in watch making technical ability...

Coldest i have been in is -39.5; saying that though the watch is normally under clothes on your wrist; so its not really a problem. I did put a NATO on an explorer 2 once as some reports said that the steel case back can freeze to the wrist- but in my experience that has never been a problem...
It was -39.5 when this picture was taken- about 60 nautical miles from the South Pole. Using a GMT Master 2.

And I'm assuming that's -39.5 C, not Fahrenheit. Pretty chilly! The NATO idea makes sense, even if it turned out not to be a problem. I imagine that the exertion of walking/XC skiing even in those conditions can lead to some perspiration/condensation on the watch. Which I'm guessing, is why the bezel freezes as stated above. Stuff most of us here have never had to consider.

Does it matter if it's C or F?

The difference is only less then half a degree

Thanks OP for the pictures.
Can't fault the quality of the pictures as they were mostly taken in extreme conditions. In fact, I kinda like them as it gives a very real feel as to how the OP might have been at the point of the photo being taken.

And nothing beats seeing the watches being utilized for the tool watches that they are, absolutely awe inspiring.
Certainly beats the usual formal wear or backyard wrist shot anytime.

Keep the expeditions going, life is an adventure.
Would love to be on my adventures when I start retiring.

Thumbs up for the shots in the wild.

Gear and clothing is a massive personal choice..but simply it's the layering principle. And if your working hard in low temperature use exercise to regulate body temperature, as wearing to much makes you sweat. Stop and it freezes..

Patek made the first chronograph, and this was the largest case they had made at the time.

The best use I have ever used a Rolex for, was in greenland. We had to self rescue to the coast after an accident. After 10 days we made it to the coast and to the top of mountain.
I saw a local hunter in the fjord..
Ran down the hill and met him. There was notable language issue..
So I turned the hands of my Submariner to 6 o'clock. He smiled and went away.
That night we moved most of the gear down the hill, the next morning it was gone..
In despair we tried to self rescue across the rivers and fjords to the settlement. Failed and decided then to wait to 6 o'clock pm..the hunter turned up and also had the rest of our kit! He had been there at 6.am...
He then took us via his boat to the village, which was on an island a km out to sea, so we would never have made it anyway ...
