Tried this on last week. Can definitely tell that its a bit bigger on my wrist than my black dial 116500

As much as I love the Daytona, I have to admit that one issue that the design of the watch has had in the past is eligibility of the sub dials. While I think the contrast is there with white lettering on a black background, making the sub dials thinner doesn’t help with legibility. Reserving judgement for when I can actually see the watch.

For me, 116520 black dial, 116500 Panda …
Think that is the most legible choice, for me that is, I love the Daytona, I doubt I’ll get one from AD so it’s a decision wether to trade in and go grey …
Sub / GMT / Daytona is as good as it gets in a collection, just my opinion ..
Daytona in any configuration is a lovely watch …

Just saw this. 116500 still looking better to me. 126500's thin subdials are not looking so good.

Great pic, very interesting differences. The 12's sub-dials are more legible than I expected. Is the newer bracelet more tapered?

My wife prefers the 11 series, says it looks more modern and the dial is better balanced. She thinks the new one is the old one.

New one is spectacular, for me, the old one just never looked finished, to each their own, but the new one, that will be on my must have list in the future.

Clear winner in my opinion.

This still my baby though.....

The 126 looks a bit “faux retro” and cheaper with the outer (steel) rimmed bezel. It looks like what someone would engineer when they needed a solution they couldn’t otherwise accomplish with the unadorned ceramic bezel.

Have many bumped/chipped their bezels? If not, seems a solution in need of a problem.

The 116 is nicer. Both are nice though.

I think both are beautiful but I find the 12xx to look slightly more sterile - lacking some of the charm of its predecessor.

I have several of the 116xxx and am on the list for the 126500 so perhaps my thoughts will change over time

I own three 116 Daytonas so I should be biased in their direction but overall I prefer the 126s. Except for the 126 steel white dial. I think that one actually looks worse with the thinner subdials. The thinner outer rings coupled with the smaller minute markers give it way too much open white space. Not a benefit to the dial proportions. Doesn’t look better imo. 116 SS white still better. Conversely, the SS black dial looks much better with those changes.

Interesting. My eyes still prefer the refinement of the 126500LN (White) on the right. You can’t go wrong either way.

I didn't realise that the 126 bezel is thinner than the 116's.

I much prefer the "old" one.

It's also the one I have...(am I doing this right?)

I agree, I like the previous version better with the larger sub dials and hour markers. The Golden Dial and Paul Newman dial were also better on the 11 series references.

The 126500 to me is an odd mix of different new and old Daytona elements. A steel ring on the bezel inspired by the 6263, a dial similar to the Zenith Daytona and then mixed with a modern case.

This is not to say that I hate the 126500, but I prefer the dial and specially the classic case proportions of the 116500.

The side profile is a major departure for a stainless Daytona which in my view makes the 116500 far superior.

While you can't go wrong with either, the shape of the new case mimics the precious metal versions. They wear a tad bigger, and if I understand correctly got rid of the asymmetrical lugs, which is a great improvement in my eyes.

This picture is really interesting and is a good example of why I don’t get that the 126500 should be more vintage inspired than the 116500. As can be seen on the picture, the old Daytonas also had a steel band around the bezel, so yes that is a nod to the past. However, the 116500 is the last Daytona with the classical Daytona case and size.

Now in my view, this does not make the 126500 an inferior watch, but it is a step away from the more classical Daytonas, also with the more true 40mm size and symmetrical, more “beefy” lugs. Whether this is good or bad is purely subjective.

Well being I’ll likely never buy another Daytona I’ll stick with the ones I have. Mainly my daily that I love!!

Unless I hit the lotto with a call from my A D for a new 126500. So yeah…..

What I have lmao

Agree the previous case shape was my favorite detail of the Daytona.

New case shape effectively squares the lugs as a result of the way they now catch the light. Similar to the explorer.

True or False … the new 126500 is the exact size / specifications of the current Precious Metal Daytonas, the 116518 for example ?

116500 = 38.88mm
126500 = 39.88mm

Some of the differences …

Any more pics? I liked the 11 series better, but am started to think I could prefer the 12!
