Those are great options based on what you say about him.

There are others. Browse and see what strikes you as fitting him and his style of dress

Very nice gesture. Perhaps a sub or a GMT may be other options.

Have an honest discussion with the Rolex dealer. You might be surprised at what you are offered. Go to Rolex.com and look at Date Just. And Day Date. Pricing might surprise you between the 2.

I suggest going to the dealer and tell them you will come back with your husband but want to know what is currently available. Maybe they can have those ready to be viewed and purchased if he likes them. Might be time efficient this way. Or if he wants to wait for exactly what he wants then that’s always an option.

Best to you!

Every hard working man should own a Rolex Submariner, with or without the cyclop!

Perfect. Keep in mind, it is difficult to get most Rolexes now. Once he picks what he wants there will most likely be a wait.

Such a cool story welcome to the forum and please let us know how it goes!!

Glad you’re taking him; I was going to suggest that a submariner or submariner date (submariner with the date window and is 1mm larger) are sort of the “quintessential” Rolex most people think of (or at least the most recognizable watch as being a Rolex to the non-watch-nerd world). If buying this watch is about owning a Rolex because it’s a Rolex and that marks a certain amount of success in life then that’s the route I’d go.

That said, a Datejust can be an amazing “one and done” Rolex for most, especially casual watch collectors. My only hesitation on suggesting a datejust would be if he wants to add a DayDate to the collection down the road, make sure they are very different configurations because if you had a similar datejust and daydate, I know for myself personally I’d reach for the DayDate every time.

Excited to see the updates!
