Thanks guys, we live in hope. If that watch ever finds its way into a service centre then itll be retained, so this might take any number of years, a decade even, but i am sure its coming back home to him some day :)

Sounds like an insider job. Someone who would know that there was a watch in there in the first place, since it appears they were after that and nothing else. I would start thinking about people that might fit that description.

Insider job for sure IMO. Someone knew what he wore and where he kept it. I would be looking at employees that have access to that area. We have had stolen watches recovered before from the stories here. Ebay and Pawn shops. In the US any stolen Rolex's are entered into NCIC and any place taking them in trade, ie (Pawn Shops) etc should be making sure there are not stolen by the serial number. Obviously if it now goes to a RSC it will be flagged, held and eventually returned to the owner or Insurance Company. Make sure your friend saves all his paperwork boxes etc. You havent said if it was insured or not but from your silence I assume it wasnt. Tough lesson to learn because Insurance is so cheap to get.

Tough break. Was it insured hopefully?

I never bring mine into the gym unless I wear it during my workout. I'd rather leave it in my car locked and hidden (not in obvious places like the glove or console). It also helps that my car is very common and doesn't look like anything valueable would ever be in it haha.

Either way it must be a terrible feeling. Hopefully it's insured. If so it's a recent model and easily replaceable.

That incident says a lot about the type(s) of people who go to that facility, or of one particularly bad employee.
I'm sure an employee would know about surveillance cameras so prolly a fellow member.
But if the facility comes up with blank images, or no image at all, then my suspicions mov back to an insider.

Sorry to hear that! best you can do is report the Serial to Rolex, i have heard stories about watches being recovered later down the road because they reported the serial and a buyer brought the watch in to get authenticated and verified...

Thats bizarre, and it does sound like an insider job. Does he drive a nice car? Someone may have followed him into the gym or wherever.

Check the laws in London, buy most pawn shops here in the states have a 30 day holding period where they can't sell any recently purchased items. It gives a little grace time to try to find a stolen item.

Insurance is always the best policy with expensive items, including a wristwatch.

Do you know what Rolex advised him to do? Is it a letter sent to one of their service centres stating the crime reference number? I'm sure that was the advice I saw when my watch was stolen, but would be nice to have the process confirmed?

I hope your friend gets the watch recovered, and the thief suitably punished.

What is not cheap in the UK? In the US through Jewelers Mutual I pay $114 a year for my 116710LN which is comparable to his Sub C. It was cheaper on my Home Owners Ryder at $88 dollars a year but wasnt as convenient as Jewelers Mutual.

What you can do as well is to post the serial number on as many sites as possible. Smart potential buyers do their homework and a quick search will learn that it is a stolen watch. I would contact the Police if I was offered a stolen watch.
On the Dutch rolexforums.nl is a category for stolen watches and might be a good place to start posting

i had the same issue in London .. people of 2 came towards me and forced me to take off my watch and the watch is daytona white gold what i did is ... i ran away too fast to the nearest cafe few meters away.

Hi, really sorry to hear about this.

I'm in London and I would be calling as many 2nd hand shops, AD's and cash convertors/pawn shops as possible. I know it would be a long shot but as least I'd have done what I could. I've worked too hard to not try all I could and not just leave it to the police to try and deal with.

How much does it cost in the UK? My no date submariner with jewelers mutual cost $95 a year. That covers everything from theft to mysterious disappearance. Even if I'm offshore fishing and it just pops off and falls 5000 feet into the ocean it's covered. One of our members here broke his deep-sea by dropping it onto a tile floor and they are discussing whether Rolex will warranty it or not. If he had insurance with jewelers mutual they would pay to fix it. They will not give you money for the loss but will replace it with a brand-new one. For $100 a year to me it's a no-brainer. Just the peace of mind alone.

How about a sting operation? Put a camera in a locker with a decoy watch and see what happens. Do this for a few weeks/months and maybe you will find the person.

Have a different guy make a big show of a "new" watch or jewelry and give it a shot.

I have a trail camera that costs under $150 that has a motion sensor. When something walks by it will take either photos or video. You could leave it there for 6 months or longer on the batteries.

I would LOVE to see this come to a conclusion with some justice.
