I find that Patek unremarkable in about every way. If it had Hamilton stamped on the dial everyone would turn their nose up at it.

If the Patek is at retail price, that’s the easy choice! Would not pay the secondary price

In this case I would opt for the Rolex. I would like to have the WG YM 42 in my collection.

Patek.
The Aquanaut and AquaLung are my two most comfortable strap/deployant watches.
And the movement on the Aquanaut is exquisite, just gorgeous.

As far as the 2 watches go the Patek is the more prestigious one. And is considered as one of the top 3 watches. For me I would go with it over the Rolex on the strap. The only gold on the Rolex is the case, hands and hour markers, and coronet at 12. As for you, you have to make that decision. Pick the one that you are most drawn to and be content, happy and at peace with your decision. One last thing, I have heard that white gold isn't that much different from steel in the presentation in the public eye. Plus it is softer than steel, picking up minor scratches easier. Correction the Rolex also has a white gold clasp and a bezel that rotates. The Patek has a see through case back and is water proof to 400 ft instead of the Rolex 300 ft. I would only repeat Pick the one you are most drawn to. be happy.

Yeah - even when you strip off the personal bias towards either brand the 5167a wins.

That said, the travel time is PP grail with the 116500 my Rolex grail. I was actually very close doing the YM and am a huge fan of the watch albeit if it's head to head, 5167a.

The color of gold is very different from that of steel.
I'm starting to prefer the Rolex 226659 and I don't think it's necessary to get the Patek. As some people say, if it didn't have the Patek inscription, it wouldn't stand out from any other watch.
I'm also worried about the fragility of the mechanism compared to the Rolex, which seems safer to me.
Thanks in any case for your opinions, I'll give myself a few more days to think about it.
Happy holidays.

unless you use a jack hammer the 5167 is not fragile.......that's just what other's say because they can't get one.......I don't treat mine any different than my Rolex...with no issue........it has 20 more meters wr than 226659

Agreed. I personally find the YM much better looking than any Patek sports watch. Also, you're getting gold and a robust movement. For me, Patek is about dress watches, complicated or not.

Forget price, do you like the Patek style of watch?? Not everyone loves the PP style or feels it’s the “next level” to eventually gravitate to.
I have tried on many PP before the craze and when they were affordable. Other than being light weight, their style isn’t what I sought after in a luxury sports watch. PP isn’t for everyone.

Agreed. The lightness and thinness of the 5167a is a plus in hot weather, and I prefer my sports watches in steel. Now if you were talking about a ghost Daytona, I might have to rethink things - that Rolex is a beaut.

I don’t like Patek, I’m sure they are excellent watches however their styles look so blah.
Biased Rolex fan boy I guess…
YM all day. Especially love the new extreme black dial on the Titanium model.

Having owned the YM I can say it’s a great piece. That being said I would prefer the PP over it. I have tried it in and prefer the dial on the PP and appreciate the aesthetics and finishing of the PP. I am on the list for one at retail and hope to get the call someday.

ROLEX YACHTMASTER 42 WHITE GOLD 226659
versus
PATEK PHILIPPE AQUANAUT 5167A-001 STEEL

I know one is white gold and the other is steel.
I have the opportunity to have a PATEK but I don't know if the money spent is worth as much for simple steel.
The ROLEX is gold, so in my opinion it's more prestigious and you can adjust the size, whereas on the PATEK you have to cut the strap.
I'd also like your opinion.

Sorry I can't put any pictures, I'll try later.
The better comparison is WG YM to the 5168g. And as far as I’m concerned the WG YM is way more satisfying to wear.

I’ve owned 5167a, 5167r while also owning 5168g (blue). The 5168g is a better size on the wrist compared to the 5167 but the movement is small for the case size which irritates me a bit…

Which brings me to my love of the WG YM. It is understated yet still feels both special and substantial. I cannot say the same about the 5168g. And certainly cannot say about the 5167a.

If you can get at MSRP, I would go for PP.

Just get both and decide. At this socioeconomic bracket, you can afford both. Neither is sensible anyway. Just do it.

I’d basically pick a Rolex over a Patek 9x out of 10, so in this case it’s a definite YM pick
