You don’t want to feel bad when looking at it on your wrist. Get it fixed and consider a full service as the watchmaker will need to remove everything from the case to do the repair.

That, I would have fixed/laser welded. Crazy that a drop onto a wood floor did that! Could it have hit something on the way down? (Like a metal part of the stroller?)

Thanks for all the contribution gents, I am most likely going to get it sorted - after the birth of our baby.
I've worn the heck out of this one for years and I want to wear it when she comes into this world.
I'll sort out the dent later.

Very confident that it did not hit any part of the stroller, but I think the impact was probably straight on to that part of the lug somehow.
Surprised me as well, but here we are.

Could be worse I suppose

I want to know more about what your floor is made of. That’s impressive wood.
I’m gonna go with…Petrified Hickory! Hickory is already an extremely hard wood, but once petrified, it’s essentially stone!

OP--is it possible that happened elsewhere and you just didn't notice it until it fell from the couch on to the wooden floor?

Certainly looks like it was hit hard and gashed--you can see the lines in the SS as if it was dragged during arm movement.

I say you leave it as is so when it’s passed on to your son/daughter they’ll know what a loving, caring father you were in setting them up with their first set of wheels. or maybe not. It will make for a great story though!

Op, I would fix yours.

Mine's worse than yours but not as bad as the OP's.

I would have it fixed.
Perhaps you should not do the just one lug. This lug will have to be polished after the welding and grinding. Doing only one would look strange compared to the rest of the watch.

Definitely have it welded and case refurbishment by a specialist.

BTW, NOT possible this was done by the floor, investigate other possibilities so it won’t happen again.

Came here to say this, I don't see how getting this fixed wouldn't result in final polishing of the repair/lug. So at that point, given it's 7 years old, sustained what seems to be a pretty good impact, and has a damaged lug and is well scratched, this to me seems like the right time to just send it off and get the entire thing overhauled both mechanically and cosmetically, fix it, polish it, service it, and then go back to scratching it up in daily use.

And as a fellow new dad (congrats, btw), you should try and get it sent off before the kiddo comes...you won't have time afterwards.

Laser weld? No, no no. no. Use it. Enjoy. But scar, unintentional, adds to the story.

I'd fix everything of I were you. But I'm not you. But if I weren't going to fix it to retail condition then I'd just keep it as is. It's the very few time that I can say I hear a scratch is associated with something wonderful, caring for a new born.

904L is about as hard as a block of warm butter.

Yep, that's your first dad ding right there. Embrace it. It's family legacy.

1) wooden floor absolutely did not do that to 904L steel. It was already damaged the drop just broke it free
2) It adds character, watches are for wearing, I'd just leave it alone. That's a pretty sweet/nice "beater" and daily watch. I love it. Leave it alone.

That is a serious hardwood floor to do that. I would probably just leave it as is until it’s time for a service.

I'd get it laser welded. That's some impressive wooden floor you've got.
