LOL I remember that story the businessman visiting Miami, the girl Bill Cosby'ed his drink and ran off with the DD, but he chased her down the lobby in his underwear and remembered the license plate of the getaway vehicle.

In all seriousness, I think you have nothing to worry about. I visited my retired relatives in Boquete a year ago, I brought my DJ. I have seen several other individuals in town with Rolex, gringos and natives alike. Insure your watch to it's full value, if someone tries to rob you, then give them the watch. It's not worth your life.
Hehehe im new in the forum. I didnt recognize the joke.

Yes im from the city. I think a little bit more dangerous. So cool that you have relative here. Maybe sometime we can meet for a coffee. Cheers mate. Regards from Panama

If you are at all worried about that be sure to insure it. Try Jewelers Mutual. Very inexpensive for peace of mind.

Seems like working and living in safe environs are the key for me; if that isn't a given it's time to upgrade one's life.

either do not buy one and wear a digital Casio or keep it locked up in a bank safe deposit box.

Never take it off your wrist, use common sense in all situations and keep it in a safe or bank box when you're not wearing it.

Lastly, get it insured. There's nothing more comforting to know that if I ever end up in the unfortunate situation to have my watch stolen, there's a possibility I could avoid violence by being fully and comfortably cooperative.

Some very funny comments but on a serious note, you can't do much about theft unless you insure it!

Get a non-date model, take it off the bracelet, throw on a strap, put it on, and no one is the wiser.

I have a Explorer 36mm on a green rubber Hirsch strap. There is nothing distinctly Rolex about it... Unless they are one of us!

Keep you're brain plugged in is my best advice. It's not unreasonable to worry about theft, especially as a Rolex (and especially a first Rolex) is often inherited from someone special or purchased to mark a special occasion so carries sentimental as well as monetary value.

Take comfort from the fact that, while members here can spot a Rolex at fifty paces, most people won't know what it is and so won't recognise it as worth stealing compared to electrical gadgets, money or obvious "bling". Be mindful of where you're going and what you're doing. If you know you're going to a rough area or somewhere that won't have secure storage for it, leave it at home but DON'T be too afraid to wear it. Where's the fun!

Lastly, make sure you're insured up to the hilt. It won't replace the sentimental value but will make sure a stolen watch is replaced. At least that way you will have peace of mind.

I'm not an actuary, but "stolen" breaks down into many sub-categories.

Being robbed is prolly the greatest concern followed closely by home burglary. So I'd say crimes of opportunity are more likely to target your wallet and smartphone - no special precautions because of your watch. Just be aware of general safety measures when out and about.

But at home, a safe measure is to bury it in a junk tool drawer with rusty wrenches on top

Remember those cheap plastic Halloween masks with the rubber band holding them on.

They need to make an Invicta one that goes over Rolex's, just for wear in certain areas or occasions :)

Sorry just cannot understand why you bought a Rolex watch if you are going to worry about IF and a BIG IF its going to be stolen.Been wearing Rolex watches for almost 40 years and wearing them almost world wide. And never even thought of any watch I was wearing being stolen, just use common sense when wearing.

Move to the UK - we have circa 17 million incredibly stupid people living here, they don't know a good thing when it's right in front of them and would rather fly in the face of common sense/commercial sense/the advice of anyone of intellect. Doubtless they will view a Rolex as some moribund example of European excess and leave it well alone.......

I don't think it's worth worrying about in the grand scheme of things.

How many stolen watches do we see talked about on here compared to overall
membership? It's not that common.

Get some insurance and wear it. If someone wants it, and seems like a real threat,
then give it to them and get another one.

Not worth dying or worrying about in my opinion.
