The Daytona is THE rock star for a reason.

FYI…The 4130 is a better movement than what’s in the DD.

I wouldn't make that trade because your DD is in WG, if it was yellow gold or rose I would say do it for versatility and ease of wear but I miss my WG DD40 all the time

It was an awesome daily wear (I thought it would be too much - it wasn't), and to go from WG DD40 to SS Daytona (as someone who daily wears a SS Daytona) would be a downgrade IMO..

Ideal answer is both, but if only one between the two I would go 228239

It's a fallacy to believe the Daytona is $15k.

The MSRP is $15k, and the watch is typically only offered to those with an extensive watch purchase history or extensive jewelry history, i.e., >$100k.

I do not know of a single story of where a person walked in off the street and was allocated a Daytona at MSRP - perhaps it has happened. That said, we know for the most part, the watch is practically unattainable unless you meet one of the above two criteria, or you have a special relationship with the AD.

Watches that are sold outside the AD sell at "fair market price," which is simply what others are willing to pay for it. $30k for a watch that is the most iconic Rolex, and arguably one of the most iconic watches in general, which typically requires a six figure purchase history, is actually a good deal.

I like this idea. I am not a Daytona fan, but love me a Speedy Pro….. Just add one. It’s perfectly OK to have 2 watches, said the girl who owns 100, or so…

I own that daytona that you want. Its a really good looking watch. I never liked the fluted bezel rolex models enough to purchase them (DJ, DD, or sky dweller). If you look at it as 2 separate transactions it makes it a lot easier. You want to get rid of your DD40 and use the funds to purchase a daytona. I dont see an issue with that. You are not making a trade... you are selling one, and using some of the funds to buy something else. Buy/wear what you like. You can always buy back the DD40... and you can always sell the daytona (possibly make money if you are lucky).

To anyone saying the Daytona is worth the hype of paying over $30,000, I'm hurting for you

Straight trade for my 2023 black dial Daytona here and waiting OP…

I hope for your sake, all the above replies have convinced you it’d be a bad move (without funds coming your way!). If not, I’m in

I'm thinking about trading my white or black 116500 for a DD40 lately, so no. Wouldn't trade a DD40 for 116500.

You can easily buy back the DD at msrp or even below msrp. Not so easy for Daytona.

That sounds like a tough decision, ultimately it depends on what you value more, the comfort and versatility of the steel Daytona or the luxury and appeal of the gold DD. if you've been lusting after the black ceramic Daytona for while now, it might be worth considering the trade.

As an owner of both DD and a Daytona, I do love my Daytona but the DD is amazing and I would never give it up for a Daytona

This is a valid point, if you are sure you really want a Daytona. Seems to me, that you can really have both, though.

Ultimately, you do you. I get wanting the Daytona. I waited two years for mine and was actually quite disappointed with it - it’s a real looker, but very poor legibility to me. The Daytona is still a hype beast but value wise this is a bad move. Again, in the end do what you gotta do.

I think you all convinced me to keep the DD. I will reconsider the speedy or perhaps just break my rule and just add the Daytona. Thanks!

No way in hell would I do this.

Factoring out the hype, the Daytona is just not even close to the same level.

If you can get one at retail sure, but don’t take a hit on a DD that is so much nicer to pay the overinflated price of an overhyped Daytona.
