I baffles me when you guy’s say dump the 12 because he can get another one down the line. No offense but he has zero purchase history. His longtime friend SA hooks him up and gets him a ND. Now he has purchase history. But it’s for a ND and you think this same AD will sell him another ND sub in the future? I can’t even get a DD40 without a full deposit and no promises to even deliver it within the year.

Do what you want. Its your watches but take it from someone with an extensive buying history. My AD wouldn’t sell me the same watch twice.

No way would I let a new watch registered in my name be out there.

Plenty of used watches on the forums and chrono 24.
And is your 5 digit a complete set? Makes a difference.

I would also figure in the 1K service cost on the older watch to the price you would get for the new watch. Not to mention the service time. If you decide to keep the older watch and can hold on the sale of the new one then go ahead an get it serviced. You will have a watch to wear while it is gone. I would keep the new watch. Five year warranty, updated case, bracelet, clasp, bezel and movement. A no brainer for me but each of us is different. It would also leave me with a watch that is worth more should I need to sell or move it. Good luck and let us know what you decide.
Good points. Will do. From what I see the 14060M is going for $8-10K and the 124060 goes for around $10-12K.

That is one of the reasons I can’t come to terms with selling either one. Who knows what this market will do and it could stay like this for awhile. No, the 14060M is watch only.

Right, I am fully prepared to take less than they are going for. In either case, I can still come out ahead.

I say part with the 14060M, you've had a good run with it! You've been wearing the 12 since June so it's already mentally gone. The M needs a service, the 12 is under warranty, so cost of ownership is nil for the 12 for the next 8-10 years. Enjoy the 12 and move on.

Since money is your motive in selling, put aesthetics, size, history, “which is better”, etc. aside … this is a financial move.

Based on what you have described as your needs, dollars in your pocket is what is most important, not ROI.

Selling the 14060M will give you the best return, but, you need capital …

The money you spent on the watches is gone, this is not a ROI play …

Let’s go high …

Selling the $4K 14060M for $10K gives you the best ROI, but puts $10K in your pocket.

Selling the $8K 124060 for $12K, while less ROI, puts more money in your pocket.

ROI does not buy braces … $12K is better than $10K … it really is simple, when you take the emotion of the watch out of the formula.

Love to consider all that, but you have a different motive / need.

I would never sell a 14060M. The most iconic diver there is.

I’d honestly be hard pressed to sell either of them. I think they’re better than cash in the bank in our current environment. You can sell one in the future if you ever find yourself in a real crunch. My 2c.

Keep the 124060 since you bought it at the AD and it has your name on it, but your choice.

I don’t know about “easily” but yes it will still be in production for awhile.

This is why my dilemma is so difficult for me.

IMO a 14060/M and 16610 are worth the $3.5-5K that they fetched for years.

Would I pay $9k+ for either today? Nope, no way, not happening.

I went and got my 16610 out of the safe to hold hand in hand with the 124060 this morning. Holding both, which feels worth a baseline of $8100?

I can tell you that it's night and day difference in terms of what you get for the money.

Heritage side of things, I do prefer the 16610 on a Nato (which it lives 95% of the time) and it's got lug holes, etc... so it's got some points there - all shared with the 14060. When you factor in the new case of the 12x, AR on the crystal, movement, and bracelet/clasp - it is a far better buy for the $8100 baseline.

I've owned the following Submariner / No Date models:
5513
14060
14060M
114060
124060

The only reference I'd keep over the 124060 would be a late 70's 5513 Maxi Dial - only because I adore the old matte painted dials. But selling my 5513 let me tap into the "watch equity" to pick up the 124060.

Just me - but I like where the 124060 landed.

I truly hope you can keep both, I hope I'm financially able to as well, only reason I have both today - I'll be honest... want to leave one for each kid hopefully. 16610 has been wound down since I got the 124060 back from LAWW / brushing.

There is no coming back from 14060 if you think selling was mistake down the road. Although that you bough it used, you bonded with that and have memories attached. You can always get another 124060 if you want one.

I would try to explain the situation to AD and sell it to them with the intention of buying back again in the future. This will almost guarantee you getting another one when the financial hurdles are cleared.

I paid more than $9k for my 16610 and I would buy it again tomorrow at the price I paid. Unfortunately I couldn’t find one at that price anymore.

I paid less than $5k 4 years ago...

Don't get me wrong I love it, but not at current price of entry.

Keep your 14060M, believe me, I traded mine and regret it everyday. Only reason for not getting another , is that I know the buyer and hope he will sell it back to me sometime.
To me, its the perfect Rolex, simple as that. Love the dial, rattle of the non SEL bracelet and, slim, weight , lugholes , looks amazing on a nato strap and with a fresh service ready for anything

You can sell the new sub for more and flip it at a quick profit, so sell that one. Great investment!

That 5 digit is your first watch. I think you'll regret selling it. I feel like it's so much more classic proportion-wise to all the new stuff.
Besides, I'm sure you'll get more $$ from selling the new one in today's market.

Sorry dude, wish you could keep both but if one had to go, I'd sell the 14060M and keep the 124060. I were you, I'd just take out a loan. Easier to pay off a loan than to find another 14060M. Good luck either way.

Get rid of the 124060 as that is the one you can reacquire in new condition if you wish to in the future.

Keep your 124060, and move the 14060.

I understand your feelings… I was a big 5-digit hold out for many years. My first was a used 16710 I had for nearly 15 years, but I also had 16570, 14060, and other watches.

Slowly, the new cerachrom models won me over… I used my 16710 to cover the market cost for a 126710 about 2 years ago.

After a while, I would look at pictures and posts about the 16710 and grow nostalgic for its charm… so, about a year ago, I bought another. I was excited to have it back! But that excitement wore off… and I remembered why I parted with it. I had a good run, but it was an old watch… it would look tired sometimes, worn sometimes… Now I rarely wear it, and, frankly, wouldn’t be surprised if I move it along once I decide what is next for me.

The 12XXXX models are just such perfect modern executions of everything a Rolex can be. They are premium sport watches. I eventually got a 124060, and it is my most worn watch. It is so simple, so perfect!

Yes, there is nostalgia in the old watches, but they just don’t compare to the modern watches. And while the prices may go up, they will always be there… but ultimately they are more enjoyable in pictures or in forum posts than they are to wear everyday compared to the 12XXXX.

Keep the 124060. It’s yours, you’ve had it since new, the 14060M had its time and is time to move along.
