SD without question.....the Sub C is a great watch and I hope to get a Non-date if they're released next year.....but IF only 1, the SD would be THE ONE!

Sub-C. They are practically the same watch that 99.999999% of the population can't tell apart though. The new bracelet is worth it alone to me and the ceramic bezel. That said I always like new, shiny, things. I don't like old things that aren't made anymore.

The Sea Dweller for me...
I have a lot of nice watches but always wanted a Rolex in the stable. Because of the prices, I thought if I'm only going to have one Rolex what would it be? The straight forward, no bling, made for professionals, tool watch was my hands down choice.

From a modern day metro sexual perspective I agree. However, if both the classic sub/dweller and ceramic sub been available 50 years ago, for the heavy lifting pioneering tasks Rolex Subs/SD were engineered to conquer, chances are better than 99.999999% that the Sub/C would never have seen the light of day, for the two most cited reasons as "improvements". Life saving, mission critical rugged dependability is worth infinitely more than a shiny fragile bezel insert and additional moving parts in a clasp.

The brain says SubC: (slightly) improved movement, much improved bracelet (micro-adjustment) and lume (both hands and hour plots).
The heart says Sea-Dweller: rugged good looks and a true less-is-more classic. Lug holes! I had both. I still have the SD... Having said that, if you don't spend your time online and let yourself be influenced by the cult-status of the SD and your plan is only to have and use one single watch, then I think it is hard to beat a new Submariner with full warranty. |

Had 3 or 4 SD's over the years and swore I'd never get rid of the last one....... Until I tried the Sub C LN and couldn't flip it fast enough!
Sorry RG's, The SD is dead, long live the Sub C!!

Most responses are SD. I had one and traded for a sub c. I have zero regrets.
I liked the SD but had two issues. No cyclops and the tuna can clasp. I had the watch come loose several times and was afraid it was going to eventually get lost. Mind you i ride motorcycles and do lots of communications work on vehicles and tower sites. I will say that if Rolex had offered a bracelet upgrade I would have opted for that. The sub c is a more substancial watch and having had it for more than a year I am happy with it. I sure do wish the blue face was available in stainless. All of the value comments are true on the SD i sold it for a couple grand more than I paid. |

I have both and can tell you that the SubC is superior in both form and function...
the glidelock clasp, larger minute hand and markers, improved in house lume and improved movement take the watch to an all new level... Having said that however the SD is a classic with a ridiculous depth rating and a useless HRV so I can really understand why some people like it so much...they want to feel all masculine and stuff .... You will be fine with both...just listen to your heart ... |

As always, if you do not want to miss the "watch of your life", try both and wear (without thinking about the forum comments) the one that sings at you!

You answered your own question when you chose the name for the thread: Classic Sea Dweller or Sub C.

I'd be happy with either honestly but I had the choice a few months ago and went with the Sea Dweller. No regrets.

That may be true, but the new design leaves a lot to be desired compared to the classic case/design that had remained very close to the same for a VERY long time.
If this were a comparison between the SD and the non-ceramic Sub, well, that would definitely be a different discussion altogether!! |

Come on Dude. Sub C kills the classic Seadweller. However if we are talking about the new Seadweller than there is no better dive watch made IMHO.
