Hi , mretlzoff , thanks for your reply. =)
Oh , For the Sub ND , Hm .. The price is lower over here in Singapore. Hm , Probably around 5000 US dollars if i converted correctly. Did the sales person gave you a lower price after he mentioned that the watch is pricing at $5600 ? |

Date or no date
Go with the ORIGINAL Submariner style! You'll get used to not having the date - I did.

Thanks. Haha , In Singapore , The Submariner with Date seems to be more on demand and there are no reduction for the price at all. Is it the same over at other places too ?

Hi Shun, let me also extend the warmest of welcomes.
If I may I'll add my two cents into the mix. The choice between the Submariner and date Submariner is really one of personal choice/preference. Nothing beats trying both on and seeing which reference is the one for you. Sometimes a bit of history helps in making the decision as to which watch not only serves you best but gives you that "special" feeling. The Submariner (proper term for the non-date) was introduced in the early 50s and through various incantations remains today. It's a watch that has a long and storied history not only in the sports arena, but the military and comerical venues as well. By the late 50s the version we are familiar with today made it debut (shoulder guards etc..) these were chronometer watches that were augmented a bit later by non chrono rated pieces. For a time Rolex produced both versions opting to drop the chrono watch for the non-chrono due to somewhat slumping sales as the standard version was a bit cheaper. Throughout all this the Submariner gained a strong following that remains to this day. May feel it's the ideal sports model giving you everything you need and nothing you don't. Here's an example of the iconic 5513. This one bears the maxi-dial due to it's slightly larger indices. While still producing the Submariner, Rolex added a date feature to the watch in the late 60s creating the Submariner date. It was the first diver to incorporate a date feature and the "trademark" cyclops lens to magnify the date. Dubbed the reference 1680 early versions of the watch bore SUBMARINER in RED and are considered collectors pieces today. Example--third quarter 1970, Through the years both the Sub and the date version have remained stallwarts in the Rolex heirarcy with strong followings. While the Submariner continued on for many years as a non-chrono watch (which really means nothing regarding timekeeping and ruggedness) Rolex chose to re-introduce the COSC version of the Submariner last year at Bazel. The 14060M COSC, While it bears a strong resemblance to the modern date version, the 16610, There are a few difference in the references. 1. The 14060M (COSC and Non) are the only current references that still use the lug hole case which some prefer as a throw back to the "tool watch" era. 2. It still uses the older 93150 bracelet with the old divers extention and non-sel endlinks. Again hommage to a bygone era. 3. Because it lacks a date feature it is a tad thinner than the date version. (not much) The current 16610 employs a non-lug hole case and solid end links, Some have speculated that the 14060M COSC may prove to be a desirable reference down the road should Rolex move the Sub to the larger block case (which they will) and discontinue the classic case we see today. (I have no idea). It would make for a very short run reference for future collectors. Side by side one can see the "cleaner" dial of the Sub, But, many feel the date feature is more important for their lifestyles than perhaps it was in times gone by. Which ever you choose you will own a watch that has few peers historically and perhaps none that will perform in conditions few of us will ever see. The Sub is a historical GIANT. |

Personally I hate the cyclops on any Rolex. It detracts from the looks of the dial. I like the clean looks of my Air King more than my TT Date. Again, it's a personal choice you have to make.

Too cool In short, if you are only going to get one Submariner, get the LV all other subs (except vintage) trail in it's wake. Just another

I like the date feature but I also love the look without the cyclop on my SD.
Daytona without date doesn't bother me at all.

Larry, do you happen to know which was the first series letter of this run of the 14060m with COSC? Z-series?
Thanks. Quote:

Unfortunately, to me, the absence of the date is a real practical issue. YMMV. Buy both!

The Sub with date is handy for me because I lose track of the date often. Without the date, a cell phone will have that info.

I settle down with the 14060M, as I can't afford the Sub Date.

I got mine 14060M (no-date sub) in Vancouver, Canada for $5100 cdn (with 12% tax included).
They listed $5420 on the price tag. I got mine approx. 3 weeks ago! |

I recommend the Sub Date. While the no-date Sub has a cleaner look the date function comes in handy, and you are spending a lot of money anyway. My YM is the first watch with a date I ever purchased, and I use the date function every day.

I say the classic sub look is the way to go. No date to get in the way of that beautiful dial.

Cyclops iconic? Not sure about that. Divers don't need to check the date!
Why do so many people remove it if it is so iconic? The original "iconic" Submariner had no date and no cyclops. It is a dive watch. No diver ever worries about the date underwater. Far more important is a clear, legible, uncluttered dial!

the no date model is cleaner looking i really like the dial. i personaly prefer the date model because i always forget the date and i need it. the other huge advantage for me is that the date subs have no pierced lugs giving a cleaner side look while the no date still uses the old cases with pierced lugs.

You cannot go wrong with either the Submariner or Submariner Date. Both are fantastic watches that are rugged, dependable timepieces. They look great dressed up or dressed down. Take care of them and they will give you a lifetime of pleasure. Not to influence you, but I have the Submariner. I love its classic clean looks. Most importantly, get the one that you like. Good luck.
