Airking is the only Rolex with the yellow crown and green writing which are the original Rolex colors. It is also one of few models which other makers could not imitate. I was not crazy about it initially but I love it after I bought. It is very noticeable too.
Like each model, some may live while other hate, happy that it is not as desirable as Hulk or Pepsi .

As shown above and mentioned in my comments above the Rolex clocks from the original bloodhound project are now gone. Rolex has nothing to do now with the project.. no need to as the decision has been made This watch will be discontinued in 2020..The vanishing stock proves it's on its way out.. why make a watch which is going the line can be freed up for the next Besel triumph

Again this watch was also the only watch in the Rolex line up with a dominant hour dial ..5,10,20 -55. Very rare dial hardley ever used on watches. Mainly used onboard ships clocks in the radio room so operators could see with a glance that transmission comes in at minutes 53 etc ... Or in some military aircraft to show take off at minutes 56.. the concept is so simple a minute rather than an hour dial..and as said unique to this watch which will most likely be discontinued very soon

I already gave him my 2007 pre-owned 16610LV Kermit purchased in 2012 for $ 4.800,-......

In 2013 I purchased another NOS 2007 16610LV for $ 7280,-.... this price has become 2-3 fold at least these days....I keep it NOS.
No one was interested in that awful green bezel Sub around 2010.....
Every docile sheep of the Rolex flock bleated for a black bezel Sub.....it is always the same with docile sheep.....

Interesting. Good pics btw.

Nice choice.:) Wear in good health. I got mines last April and it was my first. Just like the different colors combination. I got lucky, I purchased it right before the price started rising. Might become a collector piece in the near future if discontinue. ;)

I heard the GMT-Master will be discontinued because Pan Am went out of business.

Thanks for this. Saved me the trouble of finding pics.

As the watch was to commemorate the original Bloodhound project, now defunct and never consummated with a land speed record, one has to assume this Air-King will be retired in the near future.

It seems odd that people were keen to talk up the link to Bloodhound, but now see the associative demise as a positive too since it will be discontinued. Is there any scenario where this won’t be a rock solid investment?

Bloodhound was resurrencted in March 2019: https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-47650453

But I don't see any indication that Rolex is a sponsor.

Re new Bloodhound (a project I have been following), Rolex is now not involved at all. Hence the lack of Rolex in the new instrument panel already posted in this thread. Perhaps down the line...?

What are the odd's that Rolex stops production of the 116900 AK and it officially becomes retired after this upcoming Basel World?

Interesting thought since the partnership between Rolex and the Bloodhound SSC is officially over.

Recently I saw him in my local boutique in Poland. This is not the model people are killing for, just like the OP 39 and two-color DJ 41.

I think we should get John Mayor to make a winning statement and we'll all be rich.
