I don’t lift weights, but I run/jog, cycle and row with my gold sub on bracelet. Doesn’t bother me in the least. I feel better wearing it than leaving it at home. Wear my Apple Watch on the other wrist to track everything. I only wear the Apple Watch while exercising, haha. I’m not a dual watch guy.

While i don't work out (formally), wife and i enjoy off/on-road bicycling, we did a bit of kiteboarding, ocean swimming, beach volleyball of course... no worries, it's a Rolex :)

Put a lotta gouges on a Speedmaster through mile-grinding and gym workouts. Concluded it appeared much worse in a short period of time and the acrylic crystal ended up very scratched so now I unstrap the watches, including Rolex, before gym sessions. In this case, I-phone is adequate to time sets. Plenty of clocks on premise as well.

Would never leave my Rolex in a locker at any gym I went to.

Never saw anybody working hard enough to hurt a Rolex or any other watch

It is fine as long as the watch does not come into contact with the steel dumbbell or the steel frames of any weight machine. I would think you could seriously destroy a watch in a weight room in one wrong move. A rubber Casio or Fitbit is the way to go.

Real?

I wouldn't assume every Rolex you see in public is real.

All my vehicles have a Console Vault or other secure storage for certain things that can't be carried everywhere I go. I put my watch in it at times. It isn't Fort Knox level security but would take time and tools to defeat, and where I live 99.9% of theft from cars is opportunity crimes from unlocked vehicles. At home they are all garaged.

I have worn my Exp1 while working out when traveling, but at home I workout without any watch at all.

Sure, why not? It's a sports watch. I used to wear mine all the time when going to the gym mid-day (I'm sure not leaving it in a gym locker or my car).

Cross fit and jiu jitsu equals no watch. I can’t imagine wearing a Rolex to the gym regardless. That’s one of the few times they stay home.

I wore my GMT all through my military career. Countless vessel boardings in the Persian Gulf, Red Sea, Caribbean, East Pacific, etc. and it never missed a beat. I never really took it off. That includes various daily PT, mile swims, cross country runs, and banging it around on the obstacle course in flight school in Pensacola, FL. I wore it through land and water survival training as well. . . It’s been to Africa, the Middle East, Europe, the Caribbean, Central and South America, New Zealand, and the far East.

They are extremely durable and since I always wore it, I have many great memories with it.

Depends on the workout.

I’ll wear my Rolex while doing basic cardio: treadmill, rowing etc but not if I’m doing any weight training. So easy to bang a plate or dumbbell on your watch. Lol, one kettlebell snatch and you have a cracked crystal.

Awesome! And thank you for your service.

Would love to see a pic of this GMT.

Sorry but these are no longer tool watches at 10s of thousands especially in PM. They are nice jewelry and I don't need jewelry when I work out. If maybe he had no place to put it but the locker or glove box then it makes more sense but I would have worn something else all together. I don't even wear my Apple Watch at the gym. I don't like stuff on my wrist when lifting weights. I work out during my lunch break and lock my watch in my office before the gym.

From the Rolex website FAQs …

“People also ask:

“Can I wear my Rolex while I play golf or tennis?” / “Can I go to the gym with my Rolex?”

You can play sports with a Rolex on your wrist as the Rolex Oyster case provides the watch movement with optimal protection against shocks. All Rolex wristwatches are waterproof to depths of at least 100 metres for Oyster Perpetual models, and 50 metres for the Perpetual 1908 watch.”

I have a white gold GMT meteorite as daily watch. I wear it everywhere and also with workouts like running. Yes, the material is a bit softer than stainless steel but i’ve had both and the difference after a year daily usage isn’t that much. I’ve had stainless steel PCL and white gold PCL clasps and both look terrible after a month of 2 desk diving. White gold can be used dailly. If you hit something hard i guess whitegold can have a little bit bigger ding than the stainless. But the latter isn’t scratch resistent either so with normal usage white gold or any other color is fine.

I don't think it's a question of whether or not a Rolex can handle a workout, it's more about the owner's comfort level wearing a relatively expensive (for most) watch around a lot of metal and sturdy equipment where knocks and dents are more likely to happen. I wear my G-Shock in the weight room and many times, after hitting something, I've considered myself lucky that it was only my G.

It looked pretty darn good! He had the one where you use the gold clasp from the oyster bracelet.

Exactly! It’s not for everyone, but I loved seeing someone unabashedly enjoying their watch.

Has anyone here actually damaged their watch at the gym? IMHO you're as likely to do that getting in and out of your car.

I think you need to step up your gym intensity.

I agree. Only time I'd take it off is when playing squash, as I don't think they're meant withstand the accidental impact of a racket.

So if you ever ask yourself if it’s okay to workout in a Rolex, remember that a solid gold Submarine isn’t out of the question.
I worked out in full rg GMT. The way dumbbells are designed they don't hit your watch unless you wear it super loose.
