Hey Guys, what's your take on the construction of the M.A.D.1?

I was reading an old article from SJX and there was a comment about the case construction relying on glue to be held together:

https://watchesbysjx.com/2022/12/mbf...mt-milano.html

Do you think there is any truth in that? Would this be an issue for long term ownership? Happy to hear from long term owners experience with your M.A.D.1.

cheers,

R

Been wearing mine in rotation and no troubles with any of them (three).

I have heard of the glue being an issue if the watch is ever dropped. I have been wearing mine for 6 months with no issue so far though

What do they mean by glue? Is it a friction fit that is held secure by "glue" (don't some manufacturers use LocTite or something similar on bracelet screws)?

Or is the fit literally held together by "glue"?

By the way, industrial use of glue to hold things together is not new nor it is considered a bad thing. Some glues are really really strong.

'Glue' does a lot of things....

What glue do car manufacturers use?

Cyanoacrylates are used extensively in the automotive industry, in large part because of their bond strength. They can also withstand extreme conditions, facilitating use in temperatures ranging from -40° to 250° F. Cyanoacrylates may be used in other cases where other glues or fasteners are not an option, as well.

Cyanoacrylate = crazy glue , or if you are medical, = dermabond. Good stuff, but I imagine it has its pitfalls.

Looking good

Also, have you tried putting a straight lug strap on the watch? Does it work too?

Yes, I tried using a frog skin Aaron Bespoke strap I had lying around, but unfortunately it wouldn’t work. It has to be curved because of the pointer that protrudes from the case.

Ahhh ok. Thank you for confirming. That's a bit of a bummer. Was hoping to have more strap options then just Delugs hahaha.

If you read about the HM11, articles mention use of glue holding together many crystals. Not that it's in my budget but I love it except for that part. I wonder how it would be 10,15, 20 years down the road

Thanks. The new font is my favourite thing about the new release. Now I’m thinking of letting one of them go, as I don’t know if I want two Mad1s in my watch box. I just can’t decide which one to let go, as each has something that attracts me to it. We’ll see I guess.

Nice! The Czapek is lovely and I believe it has a nicely decorated movement with a micro rotor.

It’s refreshing to see some members here have so many varied timepieces! Keeps the conversation interesting and away from waiting list/investment talk

Great! One tip is I manually had to refresh the DHL tracking page and noted taxes due so paid immediately and it promptly arrived. I didn’t otherwise receive a notification which was weird.

Thanks.. I assume this is a UK thing, in the past (in the US), I’ve paid import duties after receiving the item (via a bill sent in the mail)

My delivery date backed up. Had to provide dhl ss# for some reason, then a day later, duty link, watch arrived 2 days later than initial date bc of this. I was hating the ss part and didn’t understand it
