The gmt LN is still my daily watch, for work and travel. I see too many Subs on a daily basis. GMT, not at all.

I love my GMT, its just the right balance I feel. But the Sub is so so nice as well. It's a close call, but I would side with the GMT.

If I were to have only one watch it would be the Submariner. To me it is the most versatile every day watch. I used to travel often and I would take my GMT Master II due to the ease of changing the hour hand without hacking the movement. But I don't travel much anymore so the Submariner is my everyday watch now.

I wish the GMT would come with the same bracelet as the SubC. Still bought a BLNR over the SubC though ;) The PCLs are the only thing i don't like as the watch looks overly dressy in some instances. Same criticism with my YM1, although I feel the PCLs work a bit better on that reference.

Obviously very similar in appearance and a lot of people, who approach me, mistake the GMT for a Sub. I'm all for the GMT, I love and use the complication nearly daily, the 24h hand mixes things up a bit visually and the PCL makes the watch a bit more upward mobile without taking away from the tool watch appearance, so it dresses up and down a bit better. And I love a steel/black combo.

I'm biased as bought a gmt 116710LN about an hour ago!
I have owned the sub before but found the brushed bracelet too boring and lugs too wide, the gmt is more elegant I think and prefer some bling with the pcls |

GMT 116710 LN vs Submariner 116610 LN
Quote:
As an owner of both (well, I sold my 2 116710s), I agree. Unless the OP really needs the multi-time function, the Sub is a better watch strictly design-wise. Note: the LN’s green GMT hand is hard to read against the back dial. Bracelet doesn’t have the PCL. Plus the Sub doesn’t have the “hey look at me “ huge bold bezel font” from the GMT. ...and the GMT is my favorite Rolex model. I’m just not a fun of the 6-digit ones. |
