Short answer is YES.

Bought a 116600 in November...it's gone up nearly 30% since then (not that it matters - it was a gift for my Dad).

These "millionaires" are not the ones spending $50k for a Daytona.

Very upset. The manager was running around the store with the phone in his hand yelling. I looked confused at why he was acting that way and that's when my SA leaned over and whispered to me what happened.

I'm quite sure that guy is never getting offered a watch again.

I keep on eye on the inventory at Watchfinder. Rolex for sale before the pandemic was near 1000 now about 350 so people buying. However I attach a YouTube link about watchfinder turning down steel Daytonas so perhaps less people are willing to pay 3x retail

Definitely people buying. That said I don't think there is that big a supply of popular models. Most sales are still at MSRP off of waitlists and the prices for most pieces on the grey market are not at the level where people will be tempted to immediately flip.

Yea made $50K off of some sucker for doing nothing....real loss right there. Gotta love the sense of Stockholm syndrome this brand instills onto ppl.

If nobody is buying, there wouldn't be a shortage and prices would fall.

Obviously people are buying, and too many of them.

Look at auction results. C24 prices are accurate.

I like the data they provide better. Even tells you number of listings in the last year. 4,446 for 116500 across eBay and forums.

Watchcharts claims that private sale prices for a blue AP 15500ST are $64k and dealer prices are $72k. That's seems off by quite a bit, even allowing for significant discounts from asking prices. One of the forums favorite TS has one for $123k, lowest ask on C24 is $104k, "performance" on C24 peaks at $120k.

Maybe using watchcharts as lower bound and C24 "worth" as upper bound makes sense, but with ~50% spread that's not as helpful as one might hope.

It shows Than's listing in the chart. List prices went up 50% in a month so maybe next month it will make it into the summary stats. I'm showing the site because it does aggregate non chrono24 sales and stats for comparison. Some newer people may not know about these various forum crawlers. Another is watchrecon.

I think people who have gotten in early are trading up, locking in gains of their previous watch(es).

I think they are. If your new to the brand and want a hot watch and have lots of money, the easy way to buy is simply order the watch you want from a pre-owned dealer online in BNIB condition and years of worry, angst and playing ADs games are eliminated. People in the hobby for many years and used to buying from ADs, I suspect are loathe to pay the crazy after market prices and are content to just wait for an AD to come through.

New to this forum

Personally I have just purchased 126300/ Azzuro Bule. Prices in Dubai very similar to the worldwide situation. I paid slightly over retail but the effect on DJ nowhere near as severe as high end pieces so felt comfortable with it. Was a piece I wanted to add and wouldn’t wait for. At the higher end of the spectrum not sure I would have made the decision so easily.

Trading, in any form, is a service that larger grey dealers provide. I am not saying the trade in value is necessarily good, just that it is convenient for those that periodically rotate what they own. Some ADs do this, but not typically part of their normal business practices, particularly in these times.

Yes....There are only about 40 listed on Chrono24 between $17 and 20k.

I don't know why people are prone to such hyperbole. Some guy in Canada listed a Daytona on reddit for $75k Canadian last week. Nobody has any idea what it sold for if it actually even ever existed, yet I've seen about 15 posts here this week suggesting $75k is the new Daytona price.
