I prefer the BLRO as I consider the gmt master 2 a fun watch - a little splash of bright colors is welcome.

For many years I preferred Batman, until Pepsi on Oyster came along. When I finally managed to buy a Jubille bracelet, Pepsi started appearing on my wrist more often. I finally decided that two GMTs were too many and decided to sell one. The choice was simple - Pepsi stayed and Batman pleased the new owner.

Pepsi is too colorful for many occasions and draws attention unfortunately.

BLNR. Not a fan of the BLRO with the “red” color examples I’ve seen in-person.

Vintage Pepsi… love those and looking to add one.

Hit the nail on the head, past few Pepsis I’ve seen red has looked dark red, blue quite dark and a bit uninspiring ..
Batman blue pops and is a lovely shade of blue ..

The answer is both. Totally different watches due to diff color and bracelet options if you have one on jubilee and one on oyster

I own both of them and it would be hard for me to pick a favorite. The Pepsi is iconic, but I wonder sometimes (as a thought experiment) if we remove all the history and these were just two modern references, if I wouldn't choose the BLNR over the BLRO. Rolex got the color blue SO perfect on the Batgirl that it does make it really pop.

The BLRO is iconic, has a deep connection to the history of aviation, and is very hard to come by, which are probably the things making me prefer it over the BLNR. It is impossible to separate these intangibles from the discussion, but on their own merits, I probably prefer the versatility and beautiful "Smurf" blue on the BLNR!

I think this is spot on. From an aesthetic point of view I believe the BLNR is supperior to the modern Pepsi. Colors on the modern pepsi look weird. I tried the BLRO at my AD a few weeks ago and it didn't work for me. The BLNR on ther other hand looked great.

Assuming I could get either at any time, my pick would be the BLNR but I would not turn down a BLRO :D

They got the colors right the first time with the 116719BLRO IMHO, plus it has the reliable 3186 caliber movement. They should have left well enough alone. Heck, some of the aftermarket BLRO bezels look better than the current OEM ones.

I don’t understand the OPs question.

OP says he likes them equally, and Batman is cheaper. So buy the Batman….

I concur.

Until recently, I would have always gone with a Pepsi over a BLNR but after owning a BLNR for over a year, I have done a 180. When talking modern SS GMTs, I’m drafting the BLNR first every time.

That is a great point of view. There are some intangibles you have to weigh out if they influence you or not.

I did this for about 6 months between deciding I wanted a GMT back on my life again after owning both BLNR/jubilee and BLRO/jubilee.
I will do a bit of a recap from my open box thread on my thought process.
Money and availability was not a factor as I could get either from my buying source so that takes a huge factor out of the equation that most have to deal with. That “harder to get” demon doesn’t speak in my ear. Too many might fixate on availability in choosing.a Rolex model and that is a huge rookie mistake.

There is no contest on the hype factor in pushing the BLRO ahead. I struggled with that as a positive and a negative but I had to dismiss it in choosing the right GMT. I already own a white SS Daytona so it’s not like any other watch is going to come close in “hype factor” to a ss Daytona so I looked at both BLRO and BLNR again in form and function as they are identical watches in different clothing. I studied all the pictures I’ve took of both watches in different scenarios and environments. After the first 2 months, one kept calling to me the most. By October the seasons went from summer to fall and I thought which model would I prefer to wear in colder jacket weather?
By winter, there was only one GMT still calling to me by a clear margin and that was the BLNR. Then it just took a few weeks casting a net out to my buying source to get a new/unsized BLNR.

Hope this helps some weigh out the buying process. There really is no bad GMT choice but what color scheme works best for you.

Taking the BLNR on vacation in 2019 really drove home to me how well it worked in any environment. My new BLNR is going back on the same extended vacation this spring.

The military and commercial aviation history of the iconic BLRO easily tipped the scales for me. Everytime I wore my BLNR or CHNR I missed the best GMT ever--the BLRO.
Love all Rolex GMTs but prefer historical BLRO. I have thousands of aviation hours on mine and admire it everytime I look down at my wrist.
