Big Pilot in the mix? Those are heavy hitter Watches. Are you enjoying them as much as other brands?

I have worn a Rolex since t1973, so was 15, present of my grandfather. Stolen in prep-school—my father had told everyone to, yet I did. My grandfather wanted to replace it, but my dad didn’t allow it, so I was given a Timex sub look, as consolation the following Xmas. It was a DJ Black dial sticks, so I just got a new release OP 41 Black dial. It was 1986 before I bought my own first Rolex (28yo). Had gone to Cartier in between.

so 48 years of Rolex personal interest.

Advise start early, stay healthy, work hard, and Rolex comes to you. It’s not about age, it’s about being able to afford the one you want.

37 currently. Got my first and only Rolex, SD43, when I was 36. Looking forward to building a collection.

This year I am turning 50. Therefore, I sold the Sub and EXII, and for my round birthday I bought ALS 1815 Up / Down. Only GMT II Batman stayed with me from the crowned stable.

But something green is about to appear.

I guess I'm getting old ...

Not the Big Pilot but the baby one: the Mark XVI. I love that watch! I bought that as my first luxury watch 11 years ago and it was my daily until Rolex entered the picture recently. Don't get me wrong, I do love the DD and GMT. They ooze quality and decadence, but to be honest, I sometimes yearn for the days when I was a one watch guy. Times were simpler and innocent. Now I feel the greed and lust taking over :-). Darn, you Rolex!

Daytona at 26? Wow, you started off strong. What does the rest of the collection look like? What do you have your eyes on next?

Congrats on having a beautiful timeless piece in your collection at that age. Hope you keep it for a long time and build lots of memories!

I’m 50 and my first Rolex was purchased at age 40. I’ve owned a ton of different modern and vintage models over the past decade, sticking to a smaller collection in general.
