This picture proves it would go well with my BMW! Wait a minute, I would have to sell it first! Which model do you have? 650xi for me as a DD.

It should also be remembered that enjoyment has a cost......... How much you are prepared to spend on this will vary depending on personal circumstances.......

When you buy a nice meal, have an expensive wine, buy designer clothes, shoes or any other trappings of life, you accept that the money you have earned is gone the moment you spend it and in return you have the memory of the occasion and the enjoyment factor of spending that money at that moment.......some items will have a longer enjoyment factor than others .... like a well made pair of shoes or a designer coat, but some are simply just a moment in time......

If you look up the definition of 'Investment' it will say something like......An asset or item that is purchased with the hope that it will generate income and hopefully appreciate in the future. In an economic sense, an investment is the purchase of goods that are not consumed today but are used in the future to create wealth. In finance, an investment is a monetary asset purchased with the idea that the asset will provide an income in the future and hopefully appreciate and be sold at a higher price.

Making an investment and speculating are often confused. Investing usually involves the creation of wealth i.e. everyone can win over time if, for example, property prices or the stockmarket rises......whereas speculating is often a zero-sum game; i.e. wealth is not created and someone has to lose for someone else to win. Although speculators feel they are often making informed decisions, speculation cannot usually be categorised as traditional investing and is more akin to gambling on the price alone.

When you buy a Rolex...... you are buying long term enjoyment. The fact that through places like TRF you can buy new and pre-owned from trusted sellers at a discount gives you a head start, but should really just be treated as a bonus and the ability to secure that long term enjoyment at a lower price.

But if you need to sell, it is very unlikely without a very good and well established record on TRF or e-bay, that you will be able to sell a price you see them for sale on TRF etc. So you will need to sell at a discount to a trusted seller or pre-owned watch dealer who will sell it on at a higher price using their status to do so.

Many watch brands deteriorate heavily and yet people still buy them because they are buying the enjoyment of wearing them..... like buying a sports car ........ The loss in value is the accepted price of their enjoyment.....

Rolex is a little different in that there is huge demand for pre-owned which helps soften the cost of enjoyment........ but an investment?...... DEFINITELY NOT.

Even if it isn't a good investment, the dial on it is amazing. I saw it for the first time in the flesh a few days ago and ice blue/brown company really works.
