I've had my gym locker broken into twice, both times stealing cash. Since then I would lock up the watch in the car, or just leave the watch at home.

Or wear it.

And of course, they are insured.

As you can imagine he is not feeling too great as you can imagine. It was his first Rolex, and he loved it needless to say.

Is there any hope of a recovery, the police have been informed. The place where it got stolen has CCTV outside of the locker room, so anyone going in or out would be on CCTV. And the building itself can only be accessed via swipe card, when leaving also. So the area is fairly well controlled.

Is there any chance of using the serial number to log it as stolen somewhere, or to help him in any way at all?

Any advice appreciated guys. Feeling so sick for him :(
Yes with the serial number police can enter it into NCIC as an article.

I would suggest always leaving watch in locked glovebox in car, or better yet, a small car safe that I bought off of Amazon. Several styles to choose from. Great for wallets, cash, keys, guns, etc. Safe is small and secure and is hidden under driver's seat...

My girlfriend's home was broken into 3 months ago, they took bags, wallets and a 2015 Reg Mercedes. The thieves shopped with my credit card at local super markets, gas stations whilst driving off in the car.

The police gave us a crime reference and told us to claim insurance and the criminals got away scott free.

All whilst OUR insurance premiums have now gone up, the property now has a Black mark as it has been broken into as well. We sufer and thieves gain, Police does nothing. Metropolitan police are so over stretched its a joke.

Rant over.
You have every right to rant. Middle England pays again. Stock answer claim. My wife was targeted in Coventry with a hit and claim in our car - we took them to court and they lost, but the insurance was all for paying out - easy option is what I thought. I'm happy to join in your rant as I pay tax and insure cars, goods and do the decent thing, but so many get away with all sorts and we bail them out and as you say get penalised!

However, I would qualify that by saying if you can afford a Rolex you should be able to afford to insure it...even in the UK.

And, yeah, mine never gets left in a locker, it stays on my wrist, or at home.
Sorry but I disagree about the cost. When I bought my first it cost me £20.00 to add to my home contents insurance which has a worldwide cover away from home clause. That put my yearly premium up to £130.00 a year. I now have a lot more watches and its still not much more than £200 a year. The only stipulation was an approved safe once the total amount went only a certain figure.

I have had a number of watches stolen/lost over the years and never got one back. Well wait, except for a Datejust that I had put in a drawer and then found it a few months later. But, that same Datejust was stolen/lost a few years later and has not returned!

I did have an extremely high end item stolen from me that I got back ten years later crazy but true but it was not a watch. On that item I collected double, insurance and then got it back. This item was covered under my homeowner's policy and was somehow not exempt or limited. It was returned to me by the authorities, and I even sent a letter to the insurance company to cover myself when I got it back but never heard back from them.

None of my watches is insured beyond the regular homeowner's policy which has a limit that is pretty low compared to most of my watches. When you get into a multi million dollar collection of art, rugs, antiques, collectibles, jewelry and watches, it becomes too expensive (for my mind anyway) to insure versus the relative value...in twenty years or so you've paid for half the cost of the item in premiums, in some cases more than half.

Steve Wynn insured that Picasso he put his elbow through.

I'm neither as blind nor as rich as Steve Wynn though.

Thats disgusting and appalling. Hopefully the proper authorities will be able to recover it. Stay positive and optimistic

Luckily my friend had registered his watch as stolen and that's why they are able to contact him and know he is the real owner.

Not every day we get a good outcome with this kind of story, but I wanted to thank you guys for the heads-up on the rolex stolen database

This is a fear of mine, and I think a fear for anyone who has multiple high-end watches. Which leads me to insurance, which I have. Does, say, a Geico personal property policy that covers each of my watches cover theft outside the home? This is something I should probably call and ask Geico, but thought I'd throw it out if anyone knows.....

Robert, that is absolutely terrible. Please start a new post so that this gets some attention instead of having it die and be buried in a five year old post.
