For me I thought it was too small when I first tried on a RG, but I keep gravitating back to it. For whatever reason I find the design beautiful, especially the white dial SS version. I am just mesmerized every time I look at photos of it.

That and I am a car nut, I love all things racing especially F1 and endurance racing. So naturally I am a big fan of the 24 hr of Daytona and 24 hr of Le Mans, both of course the drivers that win each class take home a Daytona. It just adds to the legacy, and something worth aspiring to own one day (at retail).

I intend to wear it on an oysterflex, making it even more versatile

By the way I have a Speedmaster as well and I love it, again the legacy and the watch as a whole package. I am really getting into the timeless designs, puts a smile on my face when I check the time.

Haven't read the thread honestly. But I can say that I owned one and sold it due to size. Just prefer the speedy. That being said, the Daytona has always caught my eye more than any other Rolex

It doesn't interest me at all and to be honest, I doubt more than 1% of owners use the chronograph function so why pay the money for the complication?

Can someone please explain the whole asymmetric lugs issue? I believe this is only present with the oyster bracelet and not the oysterflex models?

It’s only on SS, tutone, and yellow gold bracelet models. White and Rose gold and platinum bracelet models have equally sized lugs as do all OF.

Only on the SS/TT and I think YG Models with bracelet (might have changed with the 116508 model?)

The right lugs are skinnier than the left lugs

I love the Dayton but hate the current hype. Not into trendy stuff and wish that this reference was not so popular. Love the size for my wrist, that it is automatic and the water resistance. Otherwise, I really like a lot of the features on the Omega Speedmaster sapphire sandwich including the history, the visible movement and comfortable bracelet. If I'm ever able to purchase a Sea Dweller 43, I feel a stainless with white dial (instead of black) would be a great second watch. The odds of being able to purchase a Panda is about zero since I won't go grey. Oh well.

Well for some guys,

1. Daytona is the most expensive steel sports Rolex.
2. It’s the hardest to obtain.
3. It’s got the most complex dial and horology.
4. It’s the racer Rolex.

The Daytona is sort of like the head cheerleader; alphas want her.

Yup. Flipped it. No date, wore small, couldn’t unsee the asymmetrical lugs. Also difficult to read especially in low light.

Its ok for us to like / not like things, we don't have to be all the same.

Having said that, I never care for Daytona, not at the "old price", not at the "current price".

Its a good watch, I just never really liked it. nothing wrong if you own one, nothing wrong if you don't.

I actually went the other way. Initially I thought the design wasn't as good as the Speedmaster, particularly in the functionality and legibility department. Later I was able to try one on and I really liked the full package. The case is sleek and elegant, and the complexity of the dial adds to the elegance. But like other commenters here I can't justify the cost.

Serious question. What am I missing?
I’m interested in this. People often talk about its history/heritage and I’ve tried to research this but have found nothing significant.

Can anyone shine some light on the historical relevance of the Daytona?

TIA

IMO, too small and excessively busy dial.

What’s the point of this thread? Does the Daytona keep you up at night? Seems like it’s on your mind for no good reason. Buy another watch.

I have 4 Daytonas and I've owned 6 ,I have another two on order and I've never been able to read the time on any of them
They're the most comfortable and best looking Rolex in my opinion

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's about talking about watches. History, what we like, what we don't like, what interests us and what doesn't.

I might be wrong but I haven't seen much mention of investment, flipping, Rolex's duff business model, and availability compared to a lot of other threads. That's refreshing.

Like any other thread, that which doesn't appeal can easily be skipped without comment if desired.

I think failure is not the appropriate description but I get where you are coming from.

Marketing over content? Something like that.

Very at odds with some of the history attached to some other Rolex models

Nope, bought one a few years back from a grey dealer, wore it for 6 months, felt very underwhelming after all the hype around it. Then sold it to buy a SD43 and a BLRO and haven't looked back!
