A big production for a watch that seemingly very few are able to get.

Clearly the strategy is to generate hype and push a big bundle.

In the long run this is going to be bad for the brand. Already there are people bundling dress watches like Saxonia to get the Odysseus then selling it straight away on the grey market at a loss. Th bundling required for the lumen is gonna make more ALS dress watches appear on the secondary market at 20-30% lower than MSRP. How is this going to inspire confidence in buyers I don’t really know. As long as ALS is under Richemont and not independent, bottom line will always matter more than the long term outcome of the brand. What a shame!

I would be very surprised if any level of bundle will get you a Zeitwerk Lumen - there are 100's of existing big buying customers who will be asking for one of these and even then will be disappointed.

I can assure you that some people will get it through bundling, it’s just a matter of how much bundling is needed. Unless the customer has a stellar purchase history for the last 10 years, then that’s a different ball game. We will see how things unfold.

That's all Richemont's new Marketing Strategy Team could come up with across their company-owned brands like Panerai, IWC, ALS, etc. Am sure you've noticed their 'theme' of this type of marketing in the past months.

That's all their marketing teams seem to be able to do, a one-trick pony as it were.

Not smart, especially with so many great independents rising up the ranks of haute horologie. Too many great options out there to be playing these games.

I know for a fact the NY Boutique has allocated the Lume pieces they had. Called them yesterday.

Agree, this is not a good strategy. It would be better to just price the piece at $145K.

Or, be creative. Auction one first and use that for a pricing strategy.

In the end, these should probably go to the real loyal enthusiasts who have stuck with the brand in the face of Rolex and PP attention.

At the end of the day, you know for certain that a lot of these Lumens will end up in the grey market dealer's hands at 3x retail.

Just look at all the 5711/1P's and 5976/1G's that are listed at absurd prices by the greys.

Those references seem to serve nothing more than the grey market dealers, and I suspect that'll be the fate of a bunch of Lumens.

Yep, it's a big FU to their previous supporters who lost a ton of money on ALS back when ALS had garbage resale.

Don't worry, they'll circle back to that... eventually. Their corporate owner Richemont doesn't seem to care, they don't have to right now.

For that high a price, please support true (smaller) independents

Nope. And that's despite spending a LOT over the years.

I'm still told I need to buy another grand complication or two as a bundle to get this.

This system was used for the stainless steel Odysseus launched in 2019, which Schmid says was developed to please existing customers.

I have yet to meet any of these "pleased" customers. A lot of pissed off collectors from when buying an ALS new guaranteed a lot of money burned though!

As a Lange collector and fan, I think a lot of people just jump on the bandwagon recently and complain because they can’t get what they want. That goes for all the recent popular brands too

I would do it if it is only 1 grand complication. The folks here are looking for more

The only thing that bothers me a bit is their bundling practice. That cheapens the perception of their watches and may eventually cheapen them further at the marketplace. Which is unfortunate because they are truly grail level pieces.

In any case, it doesn't affect me in any way because I am not a fan of any of their "special editions" or Odysseus (which, again in my highly subjective opinion, is the weakest piece in their catalog in terms of horological merit).
