Rolex is the “Cornflakes” of the watch design world. It’s always been that way. Other than a new Cornflakes with a hint of cinnamon, what did everyone think would be offered up for breakfast???

I just hope the increase in options for the gmt signal a (slight?) increase in availability for the pieces. Be it because people turn down offers because they want a different configuration, or an actual bump in allocation.

Does your BLNR keep good time or even gain a few seconds a day??

Don't be. It is still an excellent watch, always was and always will be.

Oh man . Rolex is garbage at this point. They get rid of their last tool watch the explorer and move it to 36mm and create a tt? Makes zero sense. But, why try and innovate when it doesn’t matter what you create, people will buy it. Tudor is way more exciting.

OK, counterpoint.

Back in December I told my AD I would love a WG Daytona Meteorite on Oyster.

Can't believe he came through and texted me at 6am asking if I wanted it. Kind of thrilled.

Waiting to hear back if he meant "soon" or "someday".

Ecstatic!

No more smug AD dealer boys or nonsensical waitlists - way to go Rolex; you should hype it up and yet change nothing each year!

Thanks so much

P.S. Did you launch the new Explorer yet. Where?

No kidding on this. No hype left = price drop. I’ve been in the market also but those prices were insane.

Why getting rid of the 39mm 214270 version, which is not the original 36mm size (1016, 14270 and 114270 are all 36mm) is getting rid of the last tool watch?

It’s actually going back to its roots

Just so I’m clear, for 50 years the Explorer was a “tool watch” at 36 mm, but now that it’s back to 36 its......not a tool watch?

Got it.

This was taken today walking around and the prices are eye watering
The one in the middle they couldn’t even list

Anticipation if it will be discontinued

The world has gone nuts

I've got a lot of feelings this time around

- I wish the Explorer came out in 41, not just 36
- The ExpII was a cop out, way too much hype for nothing
- Thank god the Milgauss stuck around
- The GMTs on oyster is a really nice touch, happy to see it.
- The Daytona Meteorite WG is gorgeous.

Tudor - collective meh. I don't love the green/yg or taupe/silver, and the chronos were so close to awesome with the exception of the red chrono hand. Leaving that off would've been a great throwback to the original Daytonas

Rolex strategy 2021 onwards

Increase production, but keep exclusivity.

How, offer more configuration options. Each reference is still hard to obtain, but now, for example, GMT's on both bracelets surely must be produced in almost equal units, possibly a doubling in production.

As some people have been saying for some time, we enter the era of mass production, customisation. The more variations there are, the more they can sell, but individually still small numbers.

Incredibly lame changes to the Explorer considering it was the 50th anniversary.

I'm not surprised that it was more minor changes this year. The September release was pretty impressive with the Sub changes and OP dials. Now back to the glacial pace of Rolex. I was a little surprised the Explorer II didn't get a little more love than a new movement for the 50th anniversary.

On the Tudor side, I like the new chronos a lot. The new 58s are also nice looking, but I don't like that neither has a bracelet option. IMO, Tudor continues to impress and in a very nice compliment to Rolex.

Pretty boring release with regards to Explorer anniversary. I do like that the GMT is interchangeable between bracelets and bezels.

In theory when you buy one, you could send it in to RSC later and have the bracelet and bezel swapped since they are being offered in either option on the website.

I think we will see people doing what the 16710 owners do and get both bracelets and bezels and switch back and forth.

I do like that it went from 36 to 39 and now back to 36. Rolex took the long road to update the hands and move to lumed 3,6,9 on the 36.

Yet I think it was what most Explorer owners wanted.

The Explorers (both 1 and 2) were a huge let down.

I believe most Rolex owners prefer the absence of significant change (and I have several of them) but I find my interest in the brand has gone way down as the only thing Rolex seems to have on their plate is bezel, dial and size changes. I have generally moved on to smaller and more adventurous brands.

Nonetheless, they are a great sturdy piece.

Meteorite Daytona for me!!! I've already contacted 3 ADs so hopefully I can get one. I've given up on the green dial Daytona...

really wanted to like the 39 explorer, but this new 36 explorer looks perfect.
From the images it looks like it will lose the matte dial - which I love. Cant wait to see one in the metal / or when some real photos come out to see for sure.

On the configuration page, that model does not have the ceramic bezel. Beautiful model either way. Good luck on getting that!
