Tudors are great watches and much better in quality and workmanship than majority of the watches sold each year around the globe.
I've owned Seiko, Eterna and Tag before and nothing wrong with that. (but I've had doubts why I paid for 3 tags years back and should have combined the funds and get a Rolex.....)

I sold a white-dial stainless steel Daytona because I didn't like the fact that it didn't have a date function. I bought a Tudor Tiger because it did. The blue Tudor Submariner is a watch I wish Rolex would make in SS. I love both of them as much as I like my Rolexes. For me, it's about quality and appearance.

Not for everyone...
Hey no problem Alberto, some brands just don't work for certain people.
I always seem to get a compliment when I wear this watch to a store with real WIS employee's. Kenny from jewelers-on-time in Newport Beach spent 20 minutes going through my 1k watch with his watchmaker, looking, commenting, and admiring while I tried on his Cartier, PAM, AP and other 30k higher end watches. My watch says: Patina, Tudor, Value and 1966, all are ok by me...

I never felt an affinity towards them. They don't seem to pop or glow to me, in my humble opinion.

Must admit. Personally I think Tudor's recent models have been stunning: Heritage, Black Bay and Pelagos.
Very classical yet modern. I love my Rolexes but some of their recent models have been very bling. Ie PCL for some of their Tool watches and rehaut Btw I so want the new Orange hand. Maybe because part of me has a preference for older/vintage Rolex and that's why I am steering towards Tudors offerings. |

Having read all the posts I cant help but feel, this is lost in the definition that quality = cost = Status. And the more you pay the more special you are. I buy watches I like, I have a Rolex and a Tudor and wear them equally with pride (I don't flaunt either under other's noses and the more nice watches you own the less you care about others opinions it is a self obsession or shared with TRF members). Whenever you try outdoing the JONES'S there is always someone bigger and better. Rolex and Tudor are both volume mass produced pieces, and you can keep climbing the financial rung through PP, AP etc, or you can just slap em on your wrist enjoy them and stop reflecting your value in life on what is on your wrist.

This thread is amusing...
For me it is Rolex AND Tudor, and since I own several Rolexes it is not a money thing for me. I can afford them both (lucky me). For me Tudor offers a lot (in comparison to Rolex): * Nicely priced high quality (high grade, well proven ETA calibers delivering as good as - or better - than my Rolexes). * Anonymous brand (where I live), but still the ONLY watches I own that people gives me compliments on (especially the chrono)! (The anonymous thing is a personal preference; "reversed status", if you like.) * Design, form and function; IMHO Tudor has implemented the Jubilee better than Rolex when it comes to look and feel. From the older shared Rolex style (taken a few steps further with the big block, snowflake and all the colourful dials, ...) to the more recent style elements that do what Rolex do not dare (IMHO, again) to do. I enjoy all my watches. That's why I buy them. Next in line is possibly another Datejust ... or one of the new Tudor diver's ... or the new Omega Speedmaster re-issue ... or a Patek (the new white dialled Nautilus is just so beautiful!) ... or a ... or a ... can't decide... ;-) (Thanks Panos for quoting me; yes: A lot of fun!) Best, A |

Nice discussion :) Tudor rocks in a special way (Design, Price, Quality) and in a segment which Rolex clearly has recognized as important.

For me price isn't an issue. I like Tudors because of their honesty. I am blessed to have a collection of several Rolex watches. I can honestly say that I get equal, if not more pleasure wearing my beautiful Tudors. They are every bit as good as the Rolex marque.

Tudor make exceptional watches that stand outside of Rolex, not in their shadow. Anyone who has to ask why anyone would buy one is not buying a watch for what it is, but for how the watch somehow services their ego and self-esteem. Unfortunately, there are too many people flocking to Rolex on that alone. That to me makes the Tudor even more attractive.
There should NEVER be a need to explain off the watch. |
