No because I like to put my dress watches on whenever I can. Sub is on when I am wearing shorts.

Doesn’t look too bad, definitely possible and not too uncommon. But a proper dress watch or a datejust will always look better in a suit, imho.

No. But then I don’t own a suit. Here near Silicon Valley we stopped wearing suits in 2000.

It wears nice with a suit, but any other sports watch that isn't a tool watch, like DJ/DD/5711 would wear better. A dress watch would be the best choice however.

Depends on the suit, the watch size and the settings. Formal settings dress watch on leather for sure. Less formal/no tie something semi-sports/semi-dress (not to big) on a bracelet is fine. A Calatrava will not make a bad (tailored) suit look good do. So before getting in to pairing watches its best to first start investing in fine suits and a good tailor.

No worse than wearing a black belt with tan shoes.

If you have a net worth over $5 million US, wear a Patek dress watch
If you have a net worth over $100 million US, wear jeans and have your lawyers wear suits Kidding. Kind of. I’m a lawyer and wear my sport Rolex with my suit. Nobody pays attention anymore to watches. |

A Submariner works with it all for me. Casual, dress and formal.

Exactly! I've worn my Sub with suits, dinner jackets and on occasion with full tails and waistcoat. Nobody ever noticed or made a comment. And if they had I wouldn't have cared. IMHO the Sub goes with anything...

If you want to follow a strict dress code, then it'd be better to wear a proper dress watch. If you just want to look good and enjoy your watch - then it's totally up to you and your taste :)

The old rule: No.
The current rule: There are no rules. It's more important that your clothes fit properly. Get a good tailor. It's worth it. Almost no one but the folks on this forum even notice anyone's watch. |

I personally would not wear it if I had multiple watches, but I have worn my Subs before with suits/blazers and lived to tell you the tale. |

I think you can absolutely pull this off, especially if the colors aren’t too garish. A given black sub appears classy and understated IMO, a great balance.

We now live in an age where most people in Western society are the equivalent of middle class but with the decorum and dress sense of the working class.
This means we have enough money and ignorance to do what ever we like without even realising when we commit what was previously considered incorrect. Our friends and colleagues are usually just as clueless. In fact people spend the majority of their lives trying to dress like an American teenager. Times have changed and many of the finer points of style are anachronistic. It would be a major accomplishment if people just wore appropriate shoes with a suit. Watches are way down the line. Also, having one nice watch is enough. In past times that one watch would have been a dress watch, now it is a sports watch. So I say, yes you can wear any Rolex with a suit. Black tie (Tuxedo) should be monochromatic at least so not a Pepsi or Hulk. |

I would love to see an in depth personality profile of someone that think's it's not proper to wear their submariner with a suit and tie.
