Well, deposit was handed to my AD!

The deposits? I doubt it. As I alluded to, different states have different laws regarding pre-purchase deposits and I doubt Rolex can have one blanket policy that would be within all 50 states’ laws. If Rolex has any rules on deposits, I bet it’s in setting a maximum on deposits. Not sure why Rolex
would care about getting a deposit though, it seems exclusively an AD concern .

I believe these are all internal polices within an AD.

Beyond deposits, there may very well be a renewed opportunity to order again, I think you called it an intent to purchase. But the deposit component is likely specific to that AD.

my AD will take deposits on datejusts. they said a DJ is the only model they can actually order from Rolex. is it true? who knows, but my AD has been good to me and has no reason to lie

Every month that goes by, they collect more interest.

Until the watch arrives, they have given Rolex $0 for your watch and are collecting interest for free on your deposit. Add that up customer after customer, and the AD has a sizable revenue stream…
5 % interest on 5 grand is only $20 a month......

Walked into an AD this weekend, explained what we were after - an datejust 36 - and the salesperson looked up his ipad and told us confidently that it should be in within 3-4 months. If we wanted to secure it I could leave a €2K deposit that I can get 100% back if they don’t meet their delivery estimate.

I was really surprised about the confidence around his estimate and he clearly had a way to check all models estimated delivery.

Thoughts on this? Just a way to lock me in by dangling an estimate and having me pay a deposit or do you think they’ll come through?

Yup! I was told the same, but if a real hot configuration, such as Wimbledon or Mint green, they can’t guarantee they can get it.

Looks like I need a new dealer. Shouldn't be hard to order a 31 mm steel DJ!

I suck at taking pictures but here is my new DJ! I really enjoy the oyster bracelet and fluted bezel combo even if some find that an odd combination.

Certain models ARE available to order. I've verified that with several ADs. DJs in the 36mm and under are definitely able to be ordered. 41s could also have been added.

I have an official order for an anniversary gift for my wife. We hit 20 years in 2026. I placed the order last fall (no deposit required) and have a confirmation of the order being placed with Rolex. It is a 36mm DJ in stainless with black diamond dial and diamond bezel.

I ordered a specific Datejust 36mm for my wife only a few years ago. I went in, told the AD what I was interested in, they pulled up something on their computer, I assume mostly to record what specifically we had asked for: silver dial, fluted bezel, Jubilee bracelet, and then told me it would be in in 6-8 weeks. They called me exactly 6 weeks later and I picked it up. I did place a small deposit when we "ordered" it. It could have been as simple as me being at the top of the list for a configuration no one was super interested in. They could have literally requested it from Rolex. I am leaning towards the latter because it is what was heavily implied at the time.

Things certainly and likely have changed, but this was not long ago. My AD, with whom I have a great relationship (sourced me a BLRO on their next incoming shipment after I expressed interest), never seemed in doubt that he could easily source what I wanted at the time. It may be as simple as they get a lot of DJ 36mm's in that configuration and knew one would be coming in anyway.

Only once did the AD asked for a deposit of $50. That was years ago. Other than that, I have never been asked for a deposit.

My neighbor did this exact same thing. She custom ordered her date just and it came right in within a few months. She put 50% down. I went into the shop and asked if I could for a Sub. They said they only do it for Datejus and a couple other models.

I'd be happy with 50% deposit accompanied with a maximum 6 months wait. If the watch isn't supplied then the deposit returned.

Cheaper than Grey and a reasonable wait time.
