If the GMT and the Milgauss had BCL's I would have a much harder decision. The PCL's kill it for me because I'm in jeans or short most of the time. In my opinion the PCL's seem a little too dressy for casual wear.

I have so been there!
They both look better on the wrist than in the display. Either way, you're not likely to dislike the one you choose.

I would agree...look at them both at an AD...try both on and go with whatever has a slightly better gut feel...it's a tough choice!

Yup.

I really want the EXp1 but it has no date. $6650 for a watch with no date is hard to justify.

I always eschewed Rolex thinking I would be paying a large premium for the name. Well, two months ago, I got an Explorer I and love it. The build quality, aesthetics and accuracy are wonderful. So....a polar Explorer II will be arriving next week. I looked at both the black and polar Explorer II's and chose the polar because it was easier to read for aging eyes. If the angle is wrong, the silver hands look gray against the black dial and are hard to distinguish at times.

I'm starting to resent mine. It's grinding my rotation down to a halt. I'm worried I might become a muggle with just one watch for telling the time.

Don't be sad... look at the positve side: you have the ability to keep track on TWO time zones!

These were my thoughts exactly. I love my 40mm 16570 Polar.
On the 216570 the yellowish orange color killed it for me. The original 1655 had more of a reddish orange that I like much better or just leaving the 24 hour hand red would've been great.
In reference to the OP question:
It very surprising to me on how the secondary market is as low as it is on these models and great value on a great watch can be had.

This is where I am stumped. On a daily, if not hourly basis, I absolutely cannot make up my mind between an EXP II and a BLNR. I know I will end up with both, but the 2nd purchase may be a year+ out. Does it make more sense to buy a nicely discounted 'mint' EXP II in the short term or would it make more sense to get the BLNR that is currently less available and higher price and generally only available BNIB? The BNIB EXP II's don't have nearly the spread vs. the BNIB BLNR. My fears about getting the BLNR second... maybe it is a lot more expensive by the time I save for it or [more likely] that second Rolex always has the potential to be delayed indefinitely due to life events.

Anyone faced with a similar dilemma in years past and how did it play out?

They are both great watches and you'll love either of them. I bought the ExpII first, before the Blnr was released, but as soon as I saw the blnr I was pretty sure it had to be my second piece. I just loved the blue. I think they are both perfect for me because despite loving whichever one I'm wearing, I am always missing the other.
I love my Exp II. It's amazing.

here is a picture of them both togetheruploadfromtaptalk1400866052038.jpg

The 2 together cover so many bases. Very nice. It probably makes economic sense to get the EXP II 1st while the BLNR is still 'hot' and more difficult to come by. I'm guessing there may be more price flexibility with the BLNR by late 2015... but another one or two 10% price increases in that time and I may very well wished I pulled the trigger on the BLNR first. The debate in my mind on sequencing rages.

I suspect when the time comes whatever I get may ultimately be a pseudo-impulse buy.

It's the piece I grab for the most. It's just so versatile, casual, and fun. I love the matte black with creamy markers and orange accents. Perfection.
