Great story. I lost a sub 1680 in the surf at Freshwater Beach in Sydney Australia back in 1980. Still surf there today and wonder if it's still together as I paddle over the spot where I lost it. I'm sure it's case is solid perhaps but I'm guessing it's covered in barnacles and wedged in rocks at the south end. I now have a replacement after waiting 30 years so it's kinda cool that I know it's resting there forever. Love these stories. Cheers.

How cool is that bezel insert!? That's a true tool watch. It will otherwise look like it had never left the owner's wrist after some soap and a medium bristle toothbrush.

That's what I was thinking. Most steel would have had far more corrosion than that. Great story!!!

Truly remarkable story. But I expect nothing less because it's a ROLEX!

Definitely a great story. I'm sure the owner will tell that story every time someone asks about his watch!

If it were me, I wouldn't even polish or clean it off. Leave as is. THAT will turn heads as a truly unique watch and true example of engineering.
