And I experienced this one some years back.

I wouldn't question Churchill's expression of his own sensation, but my own reaction was somewhat more complex.

It depends on how closely one has been missed.

Initially, after having been missed by inches or less, it's a feeling of shock, confusion, and breathless relief.

I think that the term exhilaration does apply, but only after a time, when one has had time to process the event, like when you've gotten so far back to the rear that you have to send your skivvies forward to be cleaned.

Well... let us say that I heard a double report. One being the bullet breaking the sound barrier 7 inches or so from my face and the next one following a 1/2 second later or so from the report of the round leaving the muzzle of the rifle.

Nevertheless, the next round I didn't hear, but I have a nice scar and skull crease on the right side of my head just about 2.5 inches above and to the front of my right ear.

Sometimes I wish I had some hair and was not so bald. My co-workers many times notice my "crease" and ask just way too many questions. Way too many!!!

It sounds like you qualify as having been hit.

For myself, I was missed, which I think is the better of the two circumstances.

Congratulations on your being here to tell the story.

Make no little plans. They have no magic to stir men's blood and probably themselves will not be realized. Make big plans; aim high in hope and work, remembering that a noble, logical diagram once recorded will never die, but long after we are gone will be a living thing, asserting itself with ever-growing insistency. Remember that our sons and grandsons are going to do things that would stagger us. Let your watchword be order and your beacon beauty. Think big.

Daniel Burnham, Chicago architect. (1846-1912)

I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

I don't mind dying, I just don't want to be there when it happens.

It's a thin line between numerator and denominator.
