Please, sign as many prospective Rolex buyers onto your boycott as you can. Maybe you can make it to where there’s inventory in the cases and the MSRP is lowered as well.

Wouldn’t hurt my feelings at all. More watches for me!

Rolex gives a percentage of its profits to the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation. THAT is the charitable entity. The Hans Wilsdorf Foundation is the sole owner of Rolex, but Rolex is absolutely a for profit company and only a percentage of its profits are going back to the foundation. They are paying employees, investing in R&D and capital improvements, investing with their pension fund, and doing everything else that for profit companies do.

It's the exact same as every other big company that also has a charitable foundation they run with profits. General Mills, 3M, Ford, Cargill, thousands of large companies all around the world do the exact same thing, but they are not "non-profit" companies themselves. It's the foundation that does the charitable work. The company makes money and then contributes some of that to their foundations. SOME of it, not ALL of it.
Non-profits have to run like companies. If they don’t, then they won’t be around for long. Successful non-profits will be organized, managed, and operated just like for profit companies, except there are no shareholders to distribute profits to.

Doesn't mean they don't pay their staff (and quite well) or have overhead such as marketing and research. Just means they aren't paying out profit to shareholders and what not. So do we know for sure that Rolex actually spends "profit" on things other than re-investing in the business and the foundation?
Would be fascinating to look through the financial filings for Rolex. That will never happen, but it would answer a lot of questions!

OP and folks like OP's friend who bought so many Rolex watches never 'got' it, what's the Rolex brand is about. Just fedup with these knee-jerk silly reaction posts. That Bruce YouTube video is hilarious as well. He hardly understands Rolex as a brand. Why don't these folks just keep their useless opinions to themselves.

Threads like these simply support the idea that each customer leaving in anger/disgust/frustration/insert preferred adjective is in fact a net positive for Rolex as a brand.

Buy the way, ROLEX would not care if We all at TRF Boycott them!!

Maybe get some Heavy weights behind "your" Boycott like Roger Federer, and then ask Ellen DeGeneres to put it on her TV show.

Omega make nice watches. I've owned my Planet Ocean for 16 years and it's been faultless.

As for Rolex, I don't need to boycott them, they already make it hard enough to buy their pieces. Yes yes it's not their fault presumably, overwhelming demand, can't produce more and ADs decide on allocation.

Look, there are measures Rolex could take to make things better for non VIP clients. For a start they could produce more sports steel watches and less classic and gold ones without compromising the quality, same 850k output. Lower margins on steel? Raise the price. Also, they could let their ADs decide on the watches their receive from Geneva, not just be forced to buy any model Rolex send their way, especially the ones difficult to move. Finally, they could stop encouraging their ADs to sell the sought after pieces (including the more affordable ones) to preferred clients only (long purchase history), in an unsuccessful attempt to stop the flipping.

Ultimately, the current situation with sports steel is the result of Rolex shifting from steel to gold, this is a strategic decision, there is more money to be made and the brand becomes more prestigious. Less sports steel produced means less availability and prices going up in the grey and preowned markets. 100% Rolex' fault, let's not kid ourselves.

The rest of the World laughs at people like us who obsessively covert luxury/prestige brands of cars/bags/watches etc. and get upset because we can't get the items we want when we want them.
I feel ridiculous when I tell my friends that I pay 10K+ for watches that haven't been all that reliable and need to be serviced every 8 years or so at a cost of about a grand.
They think I'm crazy and they are probably right.
If you are going to get involved in a crazy pursuit like this you need to have a sense of humour and not take it all too seriously. It's not life and death.

Yea, but your friends probably don’t own anything good or interesting. You can’t take $$ it with you.

It's interesting to me how much presentation matters. I'm guessing like 90% of the people responding in this thread read the (futile/silly) title and then just went straight to leaving a comment. Because it seems to me that there are many on TRF who would be very upset if this happened to them. I suspect they'd be on here naming the AD by name and having a meltdown. Hell I might as well. Who in the world has ever been cut off from a dealer of any product for being "too good of a customer"?

IF this story is accurate then it should be concerning to some of you (after further consideration I don't have the financial means to ever be in this position haha). It is essentially saying if the volume of your purchases is too much, you may "look like" a flipper, and we may have to cut you off. So now add that parameter to the whole "building a relationship" and "establishing purchase history" equation. So, what, "strategically decline pieces on occasion" and "limit to X total per year"? It takes an already ridiculous situation and makes it laughable.

Yes, with that Omega GMT he does have a better watch over the Rolex GMT’s.

I know that. My wife sits on 3 boards and is outgoing president of one of them. I own two businesses myself, one of which is a corporation and the other organized as an LLC. My point is Rolex SA itself is not a non-profit. They are very much a traditional private corporation. Their shareholder happens to be the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, which is the charitable entity. That's the only point I'm making.

Carry on!

So your friend is selling his entire collection because his AD wont sell him anymore Rolex's. Yup, totally rational thing to do. That makes plenty of sense. Make sure he sells below retail too, that will really be sticking it to Rolex.
