Alfie, I followed the instructions to the letter but somehow managed to screw up.

That site downloaded all kinds of programs to my computer which scared the crap out of me.

I didn't get it to work so ended up doing a 2 day restore.

Is there another program on the web that can do this but maybe in a simpler way?

Hope the challenge won't be too difficult and tiresome for you Alfie. :)

I just found eight newly discovered songs with Elvis on Youtube that I want to add to my library. I have 650+ and never knew or heard of these eight.

I use a program called Dvd video soft free YouTube to mp3 converter.
Download the .exe setup from their site, install it and you are ready to go.
Then just paste the YouTube url and click download.

I'm sure you won't be disappointed, I've used it for 2.5 years now and the only downside is that downloading a music file can occasionally take up to 5min which is rather slow, however it's usually quite fast.

Properly numpty question and sorry if it has already been covered...

Word for a Macbook Pro... only need something very basic, best option? When I google there seems to be a lot of "get word for free" options, are they legit?

Many thanks

if you are looking for WORD, then it is a Microsoft product which is not free. Perhaps you are looking for a word processing software?

Ok, so I have a 32 bit version of windows seven on my PC. I upgraded some of the components and added memory. I wanted to install the 64 bit windows eight. I bought the windows eight 64 bit upgrade, but it won't let me install it.

Any work around?

I have a copy of W7 64 bit upgrade disk.

Do I have to reformat and load a 64 bit W7 first, then upgrade?

To run 64 bit OS you need a 64 bit processor, to check what processor your system has, if you are running windows, you can paste "msinfo32.exe" into the run command line and hit enter, under "System Type" it will say "x64-based PC" if it's 64 bit system, and "x86-based PC" if it's 32 bit. If you have a 64 bit system you can install a 64 bit OS but I would do a full backup of all your files and then do a clean install on a formatted hard drive. JMHO

Most systems now are X64 if they are running Windows 7. Although this is one of the possible reasons why it wont let you upgrade, There is also a restriction from upgrading from a 32bit OS to a X64bit OS when doing an upgrade. you can only upgrade from 32 to 32 and 64 to 64. you cant do a cross platform upgrade. however, you can do a clean install.

I had a mechanical hard drive failure in a laptop. All I wanted to recover was my picture file and possibly a weather script program. A local quote was 1600. Is that insane? I mean yea this place does it for the biggest tech companies here in a clean room and yada yada but come on, is there any consumer prices? I'm tempted just to take my chances myself and swap it into a new drive and hope for the best. Is this crazy?

The processor is a 64 bit I7 2600 intel chip. I am running 16 gigs of ram.

I assume I need to wipe the drive and load 64 bit op system? Does that mean I have to buy the complete OS and that I wasted money buying the 64 bit windows update?

Alfred may have some tricks of his own so let him answer before you try anything but there are some pieces of info here in these links:

http://winsupersite.com/article/wind...e-media-128512

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...7-version.html

http://www.maximumpc.com/article/how..._disk_fresh_pc

http://helpdeskgeek.com/windows-7/cl...-upgrade-disc/

The easiest way of course is to use a full version disk of windows 7, but have you checked with the manufacturers website? If you look up the model they may have recovery disks available for both 32 and 64 bit. There also could be a recovery partition on your system.

Well you can get microsoft word for free, but I'm not sure whether that is legal in your country (downloading music, movies, software, etc is legal here in the Netherlands), so I'd be careful with that.

I built it myself. So there is not make or model number.

It is running windows seven in 32 bit. I don't care if I have to wipe the hard drive. There isn't much on it anyway.

I think my problem is that I don't have full version of the software. ALl of the disks I have are upgrades. I went from XP to Vista to W7.

Linux...

Not to hijack your thread, but I can fill the linux support void! I've been using it since I was 13 and have been a systems engineer, amongst many other things, for a while now. Thanks!
