I think they still do need to fix the bracelet but to me that is an easy fix compared to a dial or movement. I will get mine on strap as soon as I can find one that works with it.

AP has shown the way for an alternative form of watch distribution. Direct sales, higher prices, restricted supply and they are doing well. As a result, more and more brands will follow. I think the watch retailers, ie ADs are a dying business. In fact, it has been going on for a while.

I was planning on trying one today. Is 15% off too ambitious?

I got around that. It is a pretty popular watch; I had to squeeze my SA over a course of 2 months to get that so its doable but is on the higher end of an acceptable range.

I know that Lange and VC both have just opened boutiques in London...

... managed by Wempe.

Rolex is run by WoS.

I think the future will see the blurring of the lines between ADs and boutiques.

Boutiques are just dedicated showrooms. Your buyer history and cred will still stretch across the AD if you buy from the right AD managed boutiques (of which there are many)

They should have just put an integrated bracelet on a Lange 1! and charge less than $20K

Why would they cut the price of a Lange one by >1/3 after adding a bracelet to it ? If anything they would charge in the upper 30s

It痴 not bad. I can see myself paying no more than $20k for a preowned piece and it being my first Lange

In the 70' they were on the other side of the iron curtain and the brand was revived in 1994. However, you are right, I am afraid that Lange does not have the ADN for a sport steel watch and the design seems not very consistent and clear. Regarding the beauty and the finishing of Lange movements, PP is way below and I am Swiss. I have a Lange 1 since 2003 and I were it most of the time caseback. Looking at it you forget the time.

This is fine if you live in large cosmopolitan cities like NYC, LA, Chicago, and the international counterparts, but this model hurts people who don't live in these cities and will rarely have a chance to try on or buy Haute horology, or even Rolex (although Rolex will likely have boutiques in more areas, affluent areas that is).

So I tried on the Odysseus today. Initial Impressions:

• This is a very very impressive watch. In the flesh it feels Teutonic and solid, and the detailing is sublime. It is heavy, but not overly so.
• It wore WAY better on my 6” wrists than I expected. I’m still not sure it isn’t too big, but it’s definitely borderline rather than ott. In size it wears similar to a professional 40mm Rolex.
• The asymmetry of the pushers is invisible on the wrist, and the buttons have a deliciously positive 'clack' when pressed.
• The bracelet is incredibly comfortable. Much more so than AP or PP. I think the flexibility was why it didn’t wear quite as big as I expected.
• It’s thick. Thicker than I would have liked, and thicker than a 15202 or a 5711, but definitely not overly thick, or top-heavy. It's very well balanced.
• The dial is gorgeous. The blue isn't a full-on blue, but a silvery, bluey grey that changes with the light.
• The micro-adjustment is really very very clever, as are the easy-to-remove links. I still don't like the clasp, though.
• The crown screws fully in, so it doesn't look at all awkward, unlike in photos.
• The watch looks far far far better on the wrist than in photos.

I talked about the watch for a while with Lange CEO Willhelm Schmidt who was an image of courtesy, despite my being generally bedraggled after a swim around the corner. He reiterated that this is the first of a family, and that exciting things are to be expected in the line's future.

for steel, I think Rolex is still the king. You can wear it to wedding, discuss business, doing some dirty works like debt collecting, attending to demonstrations against 1000 workers.
Patek Nautilus is more like collectible time pieces, not a watch to wear to any occasion; it is when you reached the very top and your time is almost up.

Rolex steel is has over 70 years of history.
Patek Nautilus, AP Royal Oak steel has over 40 years of presence.
Lange steel is still a baby.
