Rolex warranty really needed?

IF you have bought your Rolex brand new with a warranty AND the warranty period has now expired...

...did you ever use the warranty for anything?

Just wondering the percentage of actual warranty use.

Well... I've voted "NO", but on the same token, my watch is less than 4 months old.

I love my watch, works perfectly, runs at +1sec a day!!!

In my experience watches in general most brands seldom need any warranty work in the warranty period.Sure there will be a tiny minority, and today with brands like Rolex producing around 800000 plus units a year, some will have the odd defect thats a fact of life. But like all insurance warranty etc you pay your money but deep down you hope you will never need to use it

I used my warranty for a dust under the crystal of my 16610 LV (after 3 weeks of wearing it...)

Yep, had a GMT 161710 that wouldn't auto-wind right out of the box. A screw was blocking the rotor. Fixed for free of course.

I think to answer the question, yes its needed........just incase.

Mine was out of regulation right off the bat. I used it once only for regulation (and a free pouch and cloth ).

Never needed if for any of my rolexes. In fact, I have never needed it with any watch I owned. The one exception was a breitling. The thing seemed to fail without fail every 6 months and it was serviced several times. Ironically enough, it is also my only watch that has ever been stolen. Without surprise I wasn't too upset about it being gone, just chuckled to myself "well now I don't need to send that POS back to service anymore.". I hope it's erratic performance nickeled and dimmed the thief to death....

I've had to have my 2009 Sub Date re-regulated two times under warranty. The first time it was running 15-20 seconds slow a day, the second time, 30 seconds slow a day. I really wanted to know why and what Dallas RSC did to fix it, but they never tell you. Only Rolex in 8 that I have owned that needed warranty work. Now it's 2 seconds fast a day, and I am happy.

In the worst case scenario, a new movement for most current Rolex models cost around $2K before RSC discount . Anything else that needs fixing is a lot less to fix , such as a bad crown, so if you can buy a current BNIB grey market model for $2K less than the going AD street price , you are already money ahead , even if a watch is less than 2 yrs old.

Rolex loves the grey market : they sell a new watch to an AD at their full wholesale profit and have no subsequent warranty obligation ! They could care less who/how much is made in the retail transaction once they've " moved the metal " through the pipeline.

Even if you had a solid gold watch and something happened to the weld on it's bracelet's clasp and RSC says it needed to be replaced, I'd just have them return it and any local expert jewelry fabricator could fix it for a few bucks !

Nearly 23% say yes so far. Not a good number if you consider it an initial measure of quality.

This would be pretty bad for Rolex if JD Powers or Consumer Reports ever got their hands on this information.

This question is only addressing the people who actually 'noticed' something wrong with their Rolex. It ultimately depends on how much attention to detail an individual has, and/or what someone is willing to settle for (what imperfections) in their purchase.

The two (out of 9-10) that I've sent in for warranty were from people who never saw the factory flaws present in the watches when they were new. One had a smudge on the inside of the crystal, the other one was running +11 seconds. I've seen other flaws/issues, but didn't send them back to RSC because they were out of warranty.

No. 11 years and counting. Never failed. I'm going to take my GMT for the first time on vacation in the ocean. Still doesn't leak. And I've tried. My SD is 8 years old and is 100% still. Rolex quality. Both +1 per day. I also give a lot of credit to Omega. My Speedmaster Pro and Seamaster are on par. PAM too. All of them are very awesome.

Considering Rolex make around 800000 plus units a year in reality the warranty work performed in total is a very very very small percentage. And most are for things like regulation and tiny specs of dust. And if many of the ADs had a watchmaker most of these very tiny amount a warranty problems could be fixed while you wait in most cases..Its not rocket science to open a Rolex watch regulate or remove a tiny spec of dust from dial.
