16013 Stiff Winding Question

Greetings,

I am fortunate to have inherited a nice 16013 Datejust that my grandfather purchased in 1984. My father recently gave it to me. He tells me he had it serviced about 5-8 years ago. It seems to run well. On my timegraoher with a full wind I am getting +2day / Amplitude around 250 / No beat error (all dial up)

My question is about the stiffness of the winding mechanism. Even with power reserve nearly depleted, the crown is quite stiff to turn. The resistance is about the same whether fully wound or fully depleted. I have owned several watches with the 3135 movement and this was certainly not the case. Is the 3035 different in this way? Is the constant stiffness of the wind mechanism something I should have looked at?

Thank You

Stiffness is subjective. If your watch is otherwise working fine, I don't see a reason to chase issues that may be minor in nature.

If the stiffness is so great that you risk breaking something, then it should be looked at.

Thanks Guys. I cannot help but think that a bit of lube in the right place would clear this up, but it is not something I would do myself.

Reversing wheels likely running dry.. Just have it serviced if you intend to wear it regularly. My 16570 Polar was like this recently. First service in 16 years, but worn sparingly.

Service cleared it all up. Winding like butter again.
