Who cares about Exp 36…
… such a boring watch. These had been my thoughts for a couple of years.
But then sth happened - maybe I’ve grown sufficiently being close to half a century spent on this planet. The result being me picking up the Explorer 36 from a local Rolex AD today. Waiting time was shortly below 2 months. And I like the watch for its purity, which for a number of years was the reason I disregarded it. Sizewise it was an easy choice since my wrists are 16cm. By the way - today is the first day my AD (a chain and the only AD in my country running several Rolex boutiques) is accepting expressions of interest on Rolex’s novelties. And guess what? Hardly anyone is interested (whereas in previous years people were queuing to get “noted’).       bibbi |

36 mm oyster case is simply hard to beat. It just is. I don't currently own one, but I'm considering my options carefully as to what combo of 36 mm Oysters I want to own. Enjoy that watch, it is a classic.

I love it but don't own one.
If I was to pick just 1 Rolex to wear every day for life, I'd pick this. Just does what it suppose to really well. Not too big, not too flash, no calendar correction required. Waterproof, brushed. perfect. |

Congrats on your great looking 36mm Explorer. Looks great on your wrist. Such a nice timeless design. Folks seem to be getting the Explorers quickly these days (1 to 2 months). Interesting that there is such subdued interest in Rolex in your part of the world. Maybe we'll see stock in the displays (not just exhibition pieces) in the next year or two. That was part of the fun in the old days was to actually see all the watches on display. Wear your Explorer in good health. Cheers!

The Explorer I is the most boring watch Rolex makes.
Until you own one and wear it for a few days. It is MY FAVORITE watch. I have the 40 and my wife wears a 36 ... And we both agree that it is an absolute joy to wear. Wonderful wrist shots, OP!

IMO it is one of the last true "tool" watches in the Rolex catalog. Everything else is fancy jewelry now...don't get me wrong, I love my Hulk and my BLRO, but they are definitely not "tools" in classic sense of the word.

Congratulations! An absolute stunner and the perfect everyday watch. This and the daytona are the only modern tool watches that retain their original and perfect proportions, at least almost. Nice pictures as well!

IDK, maybe something happens to oneself at around 50 years old. I had never even given the Explorer I any thought, then a little over a year ago, at the exact age of 50, while on vacation in Maine I visited an AD & while they had nothing available, we had a nice conversation & BANG!! all of a sudden I wanted an Explorer!!
I'm sure some of you have read, I picked one up this week. Although I was tentative that it would be too small for me, since I am on the larger side of humanity, it fit's & looks great!! I love it. Such a nice, simple watch!! Explorer I_1.1.jpg |

I love my 36mm Explorer. Took me a while to pull the trigger. Went with the 41mm Sub initially but realized the clasp on the Sub was just way to big for my wrist. Sold the Sub to a client/friend and got the Explorer. It's probably my most worn watch

Ive had one for over 30 plus years......its been with me to the gulf war and it looks like hell....I've never had it polished and only serviced twice....I don't wear it anymore because of very bad memories from being an army nurse to my son died of an overdose 19 years ago and had it on that night....I keep it in a bank SD box. I cant bring myself to wear it ever again... But the watch could survive being nuked.

Congratulations! I have experienced a similar arc with my collecting. Now I admire the simplicity and elegance of the 36mm Explorer. It’s balanced, it’s functional, it’s available at a price point that makes it less worrying than most.
