RAAF Breitling

Nancy's son out west has an old friend, now living in Australia, visiting for the holidays. He's now a fighter pilot in the RAAF. I received the pic below in an email this morning, and here's the text of the messages:

Very cool, definitely not a safe queen!
Is it a RAAF issued watch?

Yep...he flies an F-14 Tomcat for the Australian Airforce.
79 of these were made. He got #11. It was the number of his first plane.
His watch is light. Made of Titanium.

You're right, he does fly an F-18. I must have misheard him with his thick Australian accent in the loud bar we were in last night.

I remember that my friend`s dad, who was pilot on MIG 21 and MIG 29 in former Yugoslavian army, had Breitling Pluton, also nice analog-digital watch, but watch with some serious issues, mostly with (so they said) unreliable movement produced by Citizen-Myota!
Unsatisfied with those Breitlings (it`s really hard to believe in Breitling`s unreliability, but these are true facts), chiefs decided to go for other (more economical) solution - they purchased tons of Citizen Skyhawks for their pilots, another ana-digi watch ALSO powered with Myota`s movement!
As I heard, there were no troubles with this model...

I would reckon that the watch would have been received as a commemorative piece when we first got our F18s by the supplier as the only issued watch that I am aware of that we can get is the Gshock.

Nope..I just noticed it on his wrist and asked about it. He also said he believes you get what you pay for.

This is in contrast to my father in law who buys a new $19.99 watch whenever he travels to a different province in Canada. He insists on buying cheap-o digital watches, and can never figure out how to change the time. His solution, find one in the province he's visiting with the right time sitting on the shelf, and buy it.

Good thing he doesn't like Rolex.

Actually, I asked if it was some sort of graduation gift to himself etc, and it turns out....no. Just he and a bunch of his mates decided it was a good thing to do. I believe it was about $3,000AU.

I don't think he ever takes it off....well, except when I asked to take a picture of it.
