To Bluesy or Not

Went to my AD yesterday and was surprised they had the Bluesy in stock. I'm torn whether to pull the trigger or not. It's definitely a beautiful watch but my main concern is that I might get tired of the blue and gold. Inputs from current and past owners will be greatly appreciated.

Beautiful watch, sold mine because I needed the cash, and having two watches right now seemed a bit excessive. It’s really really flashy though, so be aware!

I'd say this is the most universally popular Rolex with any gold on it. Pretty much everyone likes it, even if it's a little too flashy for some of us (like me).

I own two currently popular watches in the BLNR and SS Pepsi and yet the Bluesy is still my favorite Rolex.

Go for it. It's a great watch. I had 1 for a while and regret selling it.

Before you buy a Bluesy make sure that you don’t prefer the solid gold Bluesy instead. While this is probably the nicest TT Rolex ever made, I still feel that it is a compromise purchase since the solid gold Sub is much better in almost every way.

The only con to the gold Sub is that gold while heavy it is quite soft and they’re not everyday watches unless you don’t plan on selling them since they will not hold up as well to polishing as a TT Bluesy will and people looking for a pre-owned gold Sub only want the mintiest examples.

A ceramic gold one is more than double the Bluesy price but the classic 16618 is not. Nice ones can be had for 20k and as low as 18 ish. It’s something to consider if I were you.

If you go for TT then I would chose from two options: Either a post 2000 16613 with gold on the clasp or the ceramic one. I’ve been offered the steel clasp Bluesy several times for $7k and even a little less but I just didn’t like the steel interrupting the continuity.

The good news is that watch is probably the most visually striking of the whole Rolex line. The bad new is that watch is probably the most visually striking of the whole Rolex line. My guess is that as a rotation piece it would be really fantastic. Full-time/daily wearer it may get a bit tiresome.

I’ve had mine for over 3 years and at times it was my
daily ... Still enjoying it , others have come and gone but
the Bluesy has remained ... Its gorgeous and stunning .
Hard to get boring if you ask me ... Especially the ceramic version.
I've had both and this one's not going anywhere...

The word "better" is subjective. Better to you? OK, I get that. And I might agree. But...better? How so, exactly?

As far as your con...I would be interested in your data that shows that the 18k version will not hold up as well to polishing as a TT.

Gold watches get the "scratched more easily" rap here on TRF, but my experience has been that they wear exactly the same as my steel watches. Or TT, for that matter. And yes, I have had both versions of the bluesy, TT and 18k.

OP, to answer your question, I love this watch.

You can't go wrong with the bluesy.

I may be about to get hung here but I don’t like it. I much prefer the black dial.

Too flashy for my taste...

It's a "HEY LOOK AT ME" watch. I find that not very appealing in a watch. I prefer a watch that doesn't have to shout about its quality or beauty.

You either love it, or don't like it much. You just have to decide if it works for you or not.

That blue dial is stunning, hard to get tired of it, esp if you have sun.

I have owned the Bluesy several times and keep coming back. It is definitely one of the few Rolexes that people actually recognize and comment on as the classic face of Rolex. And I have owned the solid gold one as well. They hold up equally well.

You will NEVER get tired of it.

There is a reason why in ancient times blue and gold have been used for centuries together.

I always wanted one. Bought it a few years ago and sold it last month. I liked it but thought it was too flashy. I would rather have all ss or all 18k. I did put the ss bracelet on it for fun, if I can find the photo, I’ll post it.

To be fair , all Rolex are flashy in their own way...
Yes, I"ve had my share of nice watch from people over
the years but honestly most people don't care.
If the watch sings to you get it you will enjoy it ...

I'm not much for TT watches, but that one is beautiful. It's my second favorite TT (after the new CHNR).
