Rolex on straps?

Hey guys Im a rolex and watch newbie in general and I had a question for you all. How come I barely ever see rolexes on leather straps or any other material like rubber or anything else. I like leather straps much more than metal bracelets and I was wondering how come nobody has their rolexes on leather straps. I think a sub or a gmt would look nice with a leather band. Is a rolex and a leather strap (or any other strap) like an oxymoron or a big no-no? Ive seen a few of the gold daytonas on leather and I think it looks great. Does rolex even sell leather bands to put on subs or gmts? Thanks in advance and please excuse my ignorance.

Welcome to TRF, Sargeinaz

Straps on Rolex are a nice change from the traditional looks, I suppose. I do like the looks of it, but I for my part would rather have a metal bracelet on my Rolex, be it SS (or SS/YG or YG if I had a Rolex to match it), the reason being that I do not like the way leather becomes sticky in hot weather when you perspire.

But it is always a matter of personal preference

I think a Rolex on a strap is the traditional Rolex look. I love my 116518.

I also tried on a new YG DateJust/white dial on a tan croc strap at a dealer in the US recently, and it was absolutely beautiful and comfortable.

I've had Subs for 16 years. About a year ago I put one of them on a Croc. strap. It looked great. But after 16 years of not worrying about getting it wet, I kept hopping into the shower or pool with it on. I decided to put the bracelet back on and never worry about getting it wet.

Love the look of this. Are these the end links from Eugene or are they original? I would love to get in touch with Eugene if anyone knows how?

I've got a 1675/3 that I'd like to put on this very strap...

After thirty years of only wearing stainless I now put my GMTII and DJ on leather and natos pretty regularly... The NATO is really great for situations where there will be mud and grime, and the brown Croc I wear now really looks great when I'm dressing up.... bottom line, once you start swapping bands it becomes a lot of fun.

This is the main reason it is hard for me to only own Rolex sport watches, no real strap options for sport models.

When you look at watches like IWC for example, they are way ahead of the game when it comes to options. The new Aquatimers actually have a little lever that you can press with your thumb to release the bracelet form the lugs, it is fantastic. Then you can easily swap out the bracelet for a rubber strap. The only bummer is that you have to use genuine IWC straps, unlike Panerai were the sky is the limit. IWC's quick change strap system would be fantastic on Rolex sport models, I wish they would offer something like that. You really need to go to your local IWC dealer and check it out, you will be amazed.

I have done the nylon thing with my Rolex watches, and I do like the extra comfort. These days I buy other brands if I want strap options and keep my Rolex watches on the bracelets. To me, that is Rolex, if I want something different than a bracelet, I wear a Panerai, Omega or IWC.

A couple on nylon:

Narrow space between case and springbars may be part of the reason you seldom see leather straps on modern Rolex sport watches.
