I vote for the Sub Date.

GMT IIc is a great new generation Rolex - but the Sub Date is truly a classic Rolex, an absolute icon: grab it while it lasts in its current form before it gets maxed up.

After that, get a GMT IIC.

Hmmm, tough choice indeed! I voted for the Sub Date given it's classic good looks and rich history. The new GMT is definitely a beauty though!

You can't go wrong with either!

GMT IIc gets my vote.
Improved movement, updated clasp, gorgeous ceramic bezel, and solid center links make this a superior watch over the Sub.

Interesting to see the classic Sub-Date leading the poll so far!

I just love the look of the ceramic bezel on the GMT IIc.
Look closely at the pic.........and compare it with the black sub bezel.
The ceramic in my opinion is not BLACK at all.
It's almost like a polished mirror finish. I just can't take my eyes off this thing since I bought this two weeks ago.

Interesting....

At this point in the poll, it is 12 to 15 in favor of the Sub. In the comments section it's 9 to 1 in favor of the GMT.

In the end, because of the proliferation of Subs in the World, I think the results will OVERWHELM the GMT IIc in the tally. We all like what we have and want to promote or exclaim about it. Subs will CRUSH the GMT IIc.

I think this poll is loaded...

Oh well...

What you have to ask yourself is why is there is a proliferation of Subs in the first place.

Because they are so damn cool

No offence to GMT II lovers as this is also a fantastic watch and one that I aspire to own, but the Sub is the original professional Rolex.

Jonathan - don't ask us. Try both on and go with what you feel then you won't go wrong.

Hi David - sound advice - the closest i've got is to comparing both side by said on Saturday at my AD. The GMT was going out the door that weekend to a customer by my AD let me have a look at the watch and compare it to the Sub. Both looked great. I guess the proof in the pudding is to actually try them on, but we required the extra links because my wrists are on the large side.

I'm always keen and interested to hear fellow people's views on both of these great watches. I must admit that the polished centre links do concern me, but what was great was that my AD had the GMTIIc and was wearing it that day. There were a few scratches on the centre links but he did add that he'd just been abroad on a 2 week holiday and he wore his watch everywhere, not even to take it off, so for swimming, showering, on the beach, etc. For me polished centre links should not go near these environments, but each person to their own as everyone will say.

I am not a fan of the polished centre links, but everything else being equal I would not be put off buying a great watch because of it.

You can get the polished centre links smoothed out to look like the old style bracelet. I am not sure who would do this - not Rolex I think, but a reputable Rolex reapair-man (others will know more about this).

Of course, you could get both (but probably not at the same time).

One thing to consider, if you do get the GMT IIC and then hanker after an old style Sub (assuming the new model Sub has by then released) then there will be plenty of realy good ones around on the pre-used market.

Enjoy choosing - whichever you go for, I guarantee you will be delighted

I have the 16613 Submariner and Seamaster, so I picked GMT.

If I did opt for the GMTIIc or any future Rolex that had polished centre links I would never change anything about the watch's appearance. To tamper with something that was designed in a particular way does not make any sense. I have seen some people's photo's where they have taken polished centre links and had them brushed and IMHO it looks out of order. The new GMTIIc suits polished links.

Both of these models have reliable movements, so your choice should really have more to do with which functionality is more important to you: do you swim/dive more or do you travel or need the GMT function more? So this is not a matter of "which model is best" as in one of them is reliable while the other is less so; this is instead a matter of preference for you to decide based on your own personal needs.

Another factor you could consider is that the GMT was updated with a newer case and bracelet last year, whereas this hasn't been done yet for the Submariner, so if you want the newer model with the more ergonomic design, then go with the GMT.

I vote Sub Date, surely its the iconic Rolex. When I tried the 2 next to each other, the GMT seemed a bit busy, IMHO.

Also, ask yourself how much you want/need the GMT facility.
