One of my "other" Rolex watches
This one's a late 1930's British military pocket watch, stem wind & stem set caliber 548. The case back has the correct British broad arrow, originally used by the Board of Ordinance and more recently used by the Ministry of Defense. The B designation indicates it was a backup timepiece carried in a holder in a vehicle or vessel. This one has been verified by the Toronto RSC, overhauled, and it still runs like a champ. Nothing for show on this one, it was a purpose built, no frills, piece of equipment.
The movement pic is courtesy the 'net:

I’ve heard about some sort of historical link up between Rolex and Panerai. Did Rolex produce this wristwatch during that period?
That’s a really nice piece of Rolex history to own. Thanks for posting this. |

Awesome.
I bet when watchmakers at RSC get to work on things like this, or even special other vintage pieces, they all clamor to be the ones who get to work on them. And I'm sure that most at least come have a look. |

So RSC will work on vintage pieces now? I'd always heard that anything before the 1500 series movements was a no go, IE, keep your bubbleback at home.

Not a Rolex, but one of my "other watches" from the same time period. This was my grandfather's 1936 21 jewel Elgin open face Grade 498. I sent it to Rik Dietel for cleaning and service before giving it to my eldest son last summer. I had to search and buy a lower grade parts donor watch because it would not regulate. The new balance wheel got it on the money!
