6075 DateJust purchase advice (1959)

Another one I am looking at, this is advertised as a 1959 Datejust with a refinished dial, I like it but as always I find the search a bit of a minefield to negotiate. Every day is a school day.

Welcome any advice please

Briefly, well sort of.. from the sales info

Steel ‘ big bubble’ case ( which got my interest) with gold bezel it has the original gold Rolex ‘Super’ Oyster winding crown. The case measures 35mm across, excluding the Rolex crown and 44mm long including the lugs. The inside case is signed ‘Rolex Geneva Swiss’, ‘Patented’ and the case reference is ‘6075’. The serial number is 715,000 dating it to 1959.

The Dial

The original Rolex signed steel pearlescent dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standard and is classically Rolex. The applied gold hour batons along with the gold hands are perfectly framed by the gleaming gold engine turned bezel.

Aftermarket strap by Hirsh.

The Movement

The original Rolex signed automatic movement is again in very good condition and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. The movement is signed ‘Rolex Perpetual Chronometer’, ‘Swiss Made Patented’ and the movement number is ‘30903’.

Any red flags please? Not sure what refinished dial means - it says it is an original Rolex, but original to this watch? What would have caused it to be refinished?

Purchase price around £5k (usd 6k).

Thanks!

Seems like the asking price is more than 2x the actual value, given the repainted dial and no bracelet. On the bright side, I like the bezel. :-)

Semantics. If it has been refinished it is not "original". It may be authentic and refinished but it would be impossible to know if it was the dial originally on the watch.

The big guns have weighed in. I’ll just add that you can do much better for that amount of money.
