Sd43 with cyclops > Sd43 no cyclops
I understand the predecessors did not have the cyclops and why the purists might not like the change, but it’s an improvement imo.

I imagine there was significant debate at Rolex deciding on the cyclops. This shows why they went the way they did. It hides the date window's position and make it look better proportioned. This coming from someone who dislikes but tolerates the cyclops.

No cyclops on Sea-Dwellers of any kind. All Sea-Dwellers were born without cyclops and that should be it's one of the distinguishes from other divers.

It looks off because despite adding 3mm in size they did not change the dial or date window size. They Cyclops adds the needed width.

You sure about this? I believe the dial is larger than the old one, and also larger than the DSSD dial?

The date window is in-set because of the cyclops. The fault of the older non-cyclops model was that they also had the inset date window instead of putting it where it belongs to the right

I removed the ugly cyclops from my brand new exp II. I love it. I'd rather have the option of purchasing an exp,II with no date. Used the torch trick to heat up the cyclops until the glue liquefied and popped it off. Fast and easy. Used Googone to clean up the residue.

then they would require two different kind of dials, one with a bigger date window further to the right.

I removed the cyclops on my old Sub 16610 like 15 years ago. Back then, Rolex didn't have AR coating under the cyclops to it worked. Today, if you remove the cyclops on a SD43 you would have a darker area on the crystal, I believe.

Yes on the Cyclops. Cyclops forever.

Pull the horn off a unicorn and what have you got? It might look okay to some, but it ain't a unicorn anymore.

I’m a big fan of the SD43 with the cyclops. It’s Rolex tradition and makes seeing the date that much easier

I love the cyclops on my SD43. As others have said, it makes the date easier to read. It also balances the watch as the date's not in the same position it would be in on smaller cased Rolex's.

It’s a Rolex tradition, but traditionally not on the Sea Dweller.

I can certainly understand that, at some point a new tradition starts though...in this case it’s a mix of some old and new

I like the look and function of the cyclops.
For me, the SD43 has everything I want in a watch.

Great proportions, fantastic dial, bracelet with glidelock and the latest movement.

It doesn't get much better!

Yeah the date window looks off if no cyclops on it.

With or without both look good.
It is a bit weird that some think the SD50 should not have a cyclops, to match the original.
The original 1665 was sans cyclops because the technology to adhere the cyclops was not sufficient to do a good job.
Anyway the 1665 had:
* Bi-directional bezel
* Hollow end links
* Plastic crystal
* Tritium lume
* Lug holes
* 1575 Movement
* Non surrounded lume
* Aluminium bezel
* Hollow links
These 9 items have been superseded. No longer bi-directional, has SEL, has Sapphire crystal, has Chromalight lume, sans lug holes, movement is modernised,the lume is contained in surrounds, the bezel is now Cerachrom and the links are now solid.
So much change. So naturally the cyclops is present, just like all the other improvements.
Perhaps if the SD50 had a plastic crystal, then it should be sans cyclops.
Regards

When I first bought my SD43, I had designs on removing the cyclops right away, or at worst, at first service years down the road. Now, I’m kinda used to it. We shall see!
